Anybody. They don't even have to be good (but better than the peter pig 'phugs'). This topic has cropped up before on TMP, and there is certainly a relativley strong market for 15mm arachnid/tyrrannid/kryomek/koralon/xenos/aliens/bugs/etc
Just a plea in case someone needs a good idea
cheers. |

GZG makes bugs. I think ERM does as well? |
CATenWolde | 23 Apr 2008 10:13 p.m. PST |
I agree! However, in the meantime, the Pendraken bugs, while 10mm, are actually large enough to work with 15mm. |
Pictors Studio | 23 Apr 2008 11:19 p.m. PST |
I use the 10mm Penndraken bugs as 15mm bugs as well. They are big enough to use as 28mm bugs being about the size of most of the little tyranids. |
GeoffQRF | 23 Apr 2008 11:49 p.m. PST |
QRF has them in 15mm We do? We have aliens, predators and carnivorous plants
no bugs that I am aware of though. Geoff link |

I thought Eureka have them in 15mm too. At least, they used to (because I was sent one as a sample) Might need to email Nick direct to confirm though |

I don't know of ant SST style bugs in 15mm. Pendraken do 10mm not-aliens that are an excellent fit for 15mm and an SST type bug that is fine size wise but leaves a bit to be desired otherwise. I'm sure GZG only do 6mm bugs. |
Cyclops | 24 Apr 2008 4:28 a.m. PST |
That's 'any' by the way. And I alos use some GW Necromunda critters. Can't remember what they're called, look like spiky worms with big teeth. Look great in 15mm but pricey unless you get thenm for 10p each at a bring and buy (like me). |

"

." GZG does 25mm bugs. From "Assorted Aliens" section comes: EM-BUG Variant Bug design SGV-02 Bug type 1 (standard warrior Bug) £ 3.00 SGV-03 Bug Grubs (larva form) (pack of 2) £ 0.50 SGV-04 Bug Type 2 (slasher bug with blade claws) £ 3.00 SGV-05 Bug Type 3 (with BIO Weapons) Gracias, Glenn |

Some of these 25mm bugs (giant 15mm scale potential) are found on page 18 of the downloadable "FullCatalogue.pdf" found on link Gracias, Glenn Hmm, wonder if the smaller Sa'Vasku and Phalon space ships would work as "bugs" too.

Thanks all. I guess I WAS looking for something more along the lines of SST bugs than 'Aliens'
I realy wanted a whole slew of 'em (hence 15mm)as opponents for 15mm power armor troops (see GZG). Droves and droves of homicidal burrowing insectoids vs. a handfull of heavy powerarmored elites
sort of a custom(simpler) large scale SST game. Yes, with peewee nukes. There was a great 5150 battle report (5150 ROACHES)that introduced me to the idea of using plastic bugs/roaches and I well have to go that route it seems. I just can't believe someone hasn't stepped up to the plate on this one, what with all the proxies and homegrown doodads being used as 15mm bugs. I'm probably just too picky
Oh well, thanks again. |

Hmmm, ideas ideas
Okay, here is a question, what "Style" of bugs are people interested in? SST-ish bug like? Bipedal? Tyranidish? |
Sargonarhes | 24 Apr 2008 2:30 p.m. PST |
I was using Mongoose's cliff mites, but now that those are no longer going to be an option to gather more. The others are looking to be a better pick. |

For the Distant World battles series we do have bugs on the project list but they are 12mm and not 15mm. |
Robin Bobcat | 30 Apr 2008 8:03 a.m. PST |
One thing that a savvy manufacturer could do would be to make a single bug type in a variety of sizes, so if you're playing 25mm you can have 'baby' critters, if you're playing 15 mm, you can have 'queens'. |

Bugs smugs we need someone to do something in 6,15,25 and 28mm that will pass off as Posleen! :-) |

I'm very slowly making up what is in the range of 10-12mm versions of the movie Warrior Bugs. As others here did, I had the idea that I could use them for 28mm "baby" bugs just hatched from eggs. I'd call these literally "'lil nippers" of course. What I thought up was to use the lower part of the Mongoose Cliff Mite and match it up with the "head/jaw" parts of the Mantis Assassin bug model. With a little trimming on the Mite legs they can be used as the lower torso and legs. That just leaves figuring out how to make little tiny arms. I did that using bent wire and a drop a superglue for added muscle mass in the arm joints. I've been rather distracted of late but so far I have 75 of the eventual 200 made up. For the infantry, I was able to get some 10mm Gropos bits that should work well. The original idea was to make up a mass-battles version of the game and write up an article for MGP's house magazine. There is not much reason to do that now, but I'll still have my little army of nippers for posterity. Legs/abdomen from these- picture Head/thorax from these- picture Add superglue-enhanced wire for arms- picture and you get a 'lil warrior bug- picture Oh, I've kitbashed up ten Viking dropships for the infantry to ride in on- picture I don't know when I'll get back to this but I do want to finish it someday

I'd almost be willing to give sculpting some bugs a shot, despite being strictly beginner about it. (I'm better with conversions than full sculpts). Someone else would have to produce, though. Which would people prefer? 'Trooper' types, that are fang and claw? Technological ones with guns? Little skittering things? Hulking, plated monstrosities that spray caustic fluids? Worm-like burrowers? All the above? |
Detailed Casting Products | 03 May 2008 11:47 a.m. PST |
Robin, funny you should mention "bugs with guns." The movie totally ignored the Heinlein book that had weapon-toting 8-leggers. They even built starships as the "intersteller spoor speed" was just a little too slow for Heinlein. Verhoeven should have been given administrative punishment for not reading the book (he said as much in an interview). Bugs that shoot back? Now that's a nightmare, heh. |

"Bugs that shoot back? Now that's a nightmare, heh." Definitely sounds like some of the GW Tyranids might work for that. Add a different head to this and it might do: picture CC |

Not to take this topic too far off the track, but this is the best thing so far to me to represent a Heinlein Bug warrior. It wouldn't be hard to attach a gun either in a freehanded (oops, er, free-tentacled) grasp or even as a harness-mounted weapon (or both). picture Yup, it's a Leng Spider. I added a crude gun to its right "arm." I can also see a heavy railgun or laser mounted on top in a superfiring position. These guys look like Heinlein nightmares pretty well to me. |

Triathlete2000 said 'GZG 6mm bugs work very well for 15mm stuff.' Really? Aren't they way too small for 15mm warrior bugs? Or are they way over scale for 6mm? |

I want BUGS too. Not 6mm, not 10mm, not Ridley Scott Aliens, Not Peter Pig crab things, not SST mites – no more make-do's – dedicated 15mm BUGS!!! Cheers Mark |

'GZG 6mm bugs work very well for 15mm stuff.'Really? Aren't they way too small for 15mm warrior bugs? Or are they way over scale for 6mm? The GZG 6mm bugs are waist height on the GZG 15mm figures. I've always thought these guys (crawlers only) would be good for Heinlein Bugs. |

Try local museums, seworld centres, toy shops, etc – there are loads of packs of plastic bugs around, usually bagged in the hundreds. Plus sea creatures, snakes, larger bugs
The things are all over the place. |

Sargonarhes, this link at Chaosium shows one. It's made by RAFM. As I said, this comes the closest to the image painted in my head by Heinlein. I have been wanting to make up a force of these to put up against my Exosuits for more of a "book battle" representation to do at a con sometime. I think it'd work nicely for a variant method of play. |
KrazyIvan | 10 May 2008 7:47 a.m. PST |
Myself, I would maim for 15mm scale SST type Warrior bugs. (movie/animated series). While not true to the book – I did love the look of those things. I have some of the Mongoose SST tanker, plasma and Brain bugs already – and they were always looked under scale for 25mm. If I put them up against 15mm though – suddenly the scale problems disappear and they are 200% cool. Get a 100 to 200 of the little bugs and suddenly making a mass battle like Klendathu seems doable. (Of course – Aliens-esque xenos could be fun too.) |
