I am a newbie looking for uniform guides to the Seven Years War. I have not chosen an army to build yet so any books and websites on any of the uniforms of the major players of the period would be most appreciated!

Thanks again, TMP!

I picked up Funcken's two volume set on the Lace Wars and was disappointed. They tried to cover too long a period, and the detail for any specific war suffers.

4KingShaw's link to the SYW Project is the best online source I've seen.

I've recently purchased the 'Armies and Uniforms Of The Seven Years War' two-book set by James Woods – available from Caliver Books.

Book 1 deals with Prussia, Britain, and Allies, and book 2 deals with the French, Austrians, and their allies.

Most uniform references used to be that way. We are lucky to have so many great guides available today.

Look for the Bile supplements (there are 3). While there is no colored pictures, there is a lot of information contained and only rarely do I ever have to look up something else (in an Osprey or Funcken work).

Here is the link to the series at On Military Mattes: -

Don't forget the obvious Osprey titles. Whilst not perfect, they do offer an extremely accessible introduction.

See ospreypublishing.com . Of course, the Osprey titles are available from all good bookshops and hobby stockists wherever you are.

I have the Osprey series – and, in an unsolicited advertisement, I find the Leuthen Journal very useful!

Well, ioannis, I refer to your site at least once a week for information so Sock-Puppet away, I say!
