I'm starting to paint some Brigade Models Belgians, but I'm stuck for a colour. One of the Officers has a side cap, but I can't find any sources for the colour of the braid/piping or the tassell.

Anyone able to help?

Cheers, some good stuff in there. I hope Brigade Models expand the range.

Yes, more lovely things to manfully resist adding to the lead mountain!

On this subject, the links were fine. However, I can't find any source (in English anyway) that sets out how the Belgians were organised. They had Line, Grenadiers etc.

How were they brigaded/fielded?

Any help much appreciated.

Hi All,

The above thread is so dated now most of the links are broken.. Can anyone tell me did the early Belgians wear the same Horizon Blue as the French or was it darker?

Any 28mm painting guides or advice for Belgians would be very appreciated!

I discovered through other threads here that French 1914 uniforms wasnt horizon blue, it was the same dark blue as in the Franco Prussian war.

Would I be right in guessing that the Belgian blue in WW1 would actually be this colour??

1914: A very dark blue almost black for the Belgian overcoats with light to mid grey trousers. The shako has a black oilskin cover with a coloured pompom.

1914: The French overcoats in 1914 were a mid to dark blue, a dark royal blue. Officers wore black jackets. red trousers. I have mixed a couple of my French infantry with their red kepi's showing for a bit of variety as well as some having dark blue over trousers.
