Recently on the DBMMlist, message #62800 was posted that included, as several other posters on that list regularly do, a favorite quotation. This quotation happened to praise a certain military organization that, by any _objective_ standard, is irrefutably one of the finest military organizations in history. Nothing more was posted, solely an apolitical compliment paid to that organization, with no political comments or negative remarks about anyone or anything. Four members of that group: Dave Ruddock Bob Amey Nik Gaukroger "Vlad Impaler" made that an excuse to subsequently post on that list gratuitous, off-topic, malicious, deceptive, politically-motivated, offensive and insulting remarks or Internet links about that military organization or its Commander-in-Chief. Shame on those individuals for their unprovoked, unnecessary, inappropriate, irrelevant, jejune and petty attacks. Shame on the DBMMlist moderators whose inaction silently assented to those offensive posts, who did not justly moderate the offenders publicly and _visibly_ on the list, as they've moderated others, and who regularly allow those same offenders free license to post their first-strike inflammatory attacks and then suppress responses under the pretext that the _responses_ might be inflammatory. |

Not familiar with the post, not a member of the DBMM list, and the above is vague at best (it was either the Wehrmacht or the US, I'd guess it was the US). Nor am I prepared to get involved in any flame on this, nor wish to share any views I may or may not have on the subject, though it's obvious you are impassioned on the subject and I recognise and respect that. As I would also hope that you would recognise and respect the views of those who made these remarks etc. I will however ask do you really think it appropriate to add fuel to this fire on another forum? Surely it best to take the matter up within the community that it relates to? If you're house was on fire, would you grab a flaming timber and bring it into your neighbours home to show them your house is on fire? Or maybe a better analogy is you enter your neighbours home to tell them your house is on fire but you do so by setting fire to their curtains. And how do I insert the popcorn gif? And where can I get Tang in Australia? |

What, our dirty laundry isn't enough now we have to import other boards stuff too. sigh |

There should be a special term for people who join TMP in order to complain about something in their first post(s). Jejune? If it is a sin to be dull, many TMPers are irredeemably damned. Many DBMers, for that matter. I have Tang cold in the fridge, if you'd like some, McWong. The poporn GIF is inserted by typing an asterisk, then "popcorn", then another asterisk, with no spaces, as: Allen |

"This quotation happened to praise a certain military organization that, by any _objective_ standard..," Heh, that says a lot right there. One man's objectivity
But what of it. I agree with what others have said- this post has no place on this forum. |

McWong73 | 09 Apr 2008 9:26 p.m. PST |
khurasanminiatures, you tease! Allen, your offer is much appreciated but being in Sydney it's a bit difficult. But back to my original question. This question happened to praise a certain mixable drink that, by any _objective_ standard, is irrefutably one of the finest mixable drinks in history. Nothing more was posted, solely an apolitical compliment paid to that beverage, with no political comments or negative remarks about anyone or anything. Shame TMP! Shame! How can you stand by and watch a fellow gamer in need of Tang go thirsty? I wonder what happens if I put *tang* in my post. |
McWong73 | 09 Apr 2008 9:28 p.m. PST |
Nothing! Nothing at all special happens when I type *tang*. That's it! I'm off to the DBMM list to raise this issue. Anyone got the link? |
Aloysius the Gaul | 09 Apr 2008 9:52 p.m. PST |
some of us thought the rejoinders and counter-propaganda to be most amusing. the DBMM list has a long and much honoured tradition of lampooning political messages and ideologies – especially those posted as sig's – by all means please continue to post such stuff – Phil's thought processes about the next army list book are often a bit turgid and some light releif is welcome. |
Nik Gaukroger | 09 Apr 2008 10:52 p.m. PST |
Oddly I don't recall him making any objection on the DBMM list – would seem the most logical place. For anyone who is interested here is my "gratuitous, off-topic, malicious, deceptive, politically-motivated, offensive and insulting remarks or Internet links" link |
bloodeagle | 09 Apr 2008 11:44 p.m. PST |
Used to be able to buy tang in Australia but as it is a fowl undrinkable brew I believe it is not sold anymore. |

"made that an excuse to subsequently post on that list gratuitous, off-topic, malicious, deceptive, politically-motivated, offensive and insulting remarks or Internet links about that military organization or its Commander-in-Chief." Malicious, insulting, and offensive comments posted to a Yahoogroups mailing list is against Yahoogroups terms of service and terms of use. The poster of message #62800 should complain to Yahoogroups, who will in turn take action – Yahoogroups, in my experience, are very good at dealing with such people. |
aecurtis | 10 Apr 2008 4:51 a.m. PST |
I do not know the details of the Australian version, but the US Tang packaging has no mention of poultry or poultry products in the ingredients. Allen |
Martin Rapier | 10 Apr 2008 5:40 a.m. PST |
"For anyone who is interested " LOL! Someone needs a serious humour implant – or should that be 'humor'. So, what is the DBMM Army List for the USMC then?? I can think of some quite good HoTT ones. |
BigRedBat | 10 Apr 2008 6:20 a.m. PST |
If I wasn't happy with the moderation on DBMM, I'd just vote with my feet. I don't think it's desirable or useful to "stir" on another board/forum. Simon |

Tom Lehrer? Oh, Nik. That was a low blow. |
John the OFM | 10 Apr 2008 6:51 a.m. PST |
My old girlfriend used to mix Tang with hot tea and cinnamon sticks. I tolerated that because she would then put on the Moody Blues to get herself into the mood. Vitamin C and sex. Can't argue with that. |
John the OFM | 10 Apr 2008 6:54 a.m. PST |
I think this is a cystal clear justification for not having on TMP those bloated "sigs" that infest way too many forums. |

Is there an extension on DBMM into the modern period? I thought it stopped around 1500 AD. I gotta say, I can't stand Tang. The dynasty, yes. The 'drink', no. Tom Lehrer? We aim for the Moon, sometimes we hit London? That guy? |

I went to see the terracota army the other week at the british museum. There was all of 20 of them. Thats not an army i want to go somewhere to complain. They were nice though. As were the stone reliefs showing assyrian 3 horse chariots. The sutton hoo helmet was awsome as was the rosetta stone. Seing them in the flesh is quite an experience. |
