Yes, its my opinion, that people should be allowed to continue posting as they have done for some time, as it your opinion that they shouldn't.

Where did this Nazi-porn thing come from by the way, aren't german armies amazingly popular among historical WW2 gamers……..it would seem the whole Kettle/Pot thing apply more to you than myself. wink

Fair enough, By John 54!

We can agree to disagree and move on amicably.

I'm pleased the italeri kit was to your liking, i'm more of 1/76 1/72nd chap myself, but i was always aware that in their day italeri (or should I say Peerless/Max?) were well worth a look, or at least Messers Verlinden and Paine thought so.

Mr Davies, I consider you something of an icon of The Miniatures Page, particularly when it comes to The British Commonwealth (a pet subject for me), you're always enthusiastic about offering advice to those who seek it. I view you with a great deal of respect but that reputation is tarnishing with each post in this particular selection of threads, as you slag off genres of the larger hobby, parts of which you consider beneath you.

This is absurd.

As far as the outside world is concerned we're all "slightly purile", regardless if we play with Seven Years War Prussians, Imperial Romans or 1946 alternate history germans. We are all otherwise sober (? sometimes ?) sensible grown adult people, who cling to their toy soldiers in an almost unhealthy manner. why arent we doing something normal like drinking beer and watching football?

To sneer at one persons figures for whatever reason, is akin to a Trekker or a Plushie sneering at a Furrie, or a Goth sneering at an Emo, over some imagined sense of seniority/pecking order. utter nonsense. we're all wierd, especially the so called "normal ones".

Static Tyrant11 Apr 2008 5:14 a.m. PST

If one were really being honest with oneself about how serious war (in this case WW2) is and how we should always be mindful of the sacrifices others have previously made, one simply wouldn't be playing (in this case WW2) wargames. There's nothing respectful about what we do. We arrange to have our soldiers die horribly and often fruitlessly in battle, over and over again, for our own amusement.

The OP (original poster) has made a lovely model. Well done.

Others have not helped their cases by failing to research the current, contemporary, widely-accepted understanding of the difference between science fiction and fantasy (especially as those descriptors apply to wargames miniatures and rulesets). They each tend to have a relatively specific meaning which it would behoove one to know before mouthing off.

CCollins, that's very kind of you and I agree that you and I have had some great discussions. However, I've seen too many fora over the years (on all manner of things, not just wargaming) just driven into the ground due to bad moderation, allowing fora to be filled up with irelevant topics until the regulars, those with something interesting to say, are all driven away. I've always really enjoyed this forum, but I probably won't bother with it in the future if it continues to fill up with non-WW2 topics.

I've got absolutely nothing against fantasy gaming – I've got a collossal collection of Grenadier/Coppleston Near Future stuff and loads of Denizen and GZG forces for Stargrunt 2 (some of which is painted in 20th Century and WW2 camo schemes) and I even painted some WH40K Terminators in the theme of an Alexandrian Successor army (portraits of Alexander & Macedonian starbursts on the shields, etc) but I wouldn't be so daft as to post them up in a WW2 or Ancients forum and Bleeped text off the regulars.

Otherwise, why bother creating separate fora in the first place?

Guiscard – that's exactly what I was wondering about 'Weird War II' gamers. The adverts I've seen for such things in the wargames press (and on the banners at the top of this page) all seem to be full of leather-clad, whip-wielding SS sex-vixens and it strikes me that the players all seem REALLY disappointed that Hitler lost, because his stuff was soooo cool… Wouldn't it have been great if the Fuhrer had created zombie armies on his SS ubermensch baby farms and big stompy things and was able to continue the war and…….

Hexxenhammer11 Apr 2008 7:29 a.m. PST

Wrong, wrong, wrong. I would NEVER collect a nazi army for a wargame. For me it would be like endorsing it. I understand that's ridiculous and I don't care if others like their tigers (as long as they don't like them TOO much, or really like SS units or something). I like Weird war stuff because nazis are the ultimate bad guys, and the Allies can be glorified ultimate good guys. Screw the shades of gray, weird war gives you white hats and black hats. All weird war gaming I've done is in RPGs and we're always the good guys. Like Indiana Jones or BJ Blaskowitz in the Wolfenstein videogames. Get the nazi fetish idea right out of your head.

Earl of the North11 Apr 2008 7:57 a.m. PST

Yeah, kinda missed the point totally didn't he……You could also make the case that WW2 gamers must all be really disappointed that Germany lost, why else are germans the most popular faction? Nonsense of course, but if you're gonna start throwing stones, you shouldn't live in a glass mansion. wink

Hexxenhammer11 Apr 2008 8:12 a.m. PST

I also think that turning nazis into "cartoonish super-villains," as Smithers would say, is a way of taking power away from the ridiculous ideas.

For my preference, Allies use their brains and technology (like robots) to overcome the evil nazi magic (like nazi zombies).

xxxxxxxxooooo11 Apr 2008 8:20 a.m. PST

Careful there HH…

Check your source material. Zombies were not available until June of 1943 in the "Klebenhammer Campaign according to the "Deutchesland Archiv Volumen 714.33z" which is of course the most authoritative study on the occult weapons of the period. Anyone who uses the Keegan summary on the subject is a piker who should be laughed out of the Hobby.

Oh, and remember, the 3rd Zombie Panzergruppen Grenadier Volksturm used the Pkz 456 pattern camo uniform rather than the Pkz 456.2. I won't let anyone who uses the wrong shade of gray on my table.

Do it right Hexxenhammer.

C'mon Guiscard, next you'll be telling me that the Thompson Sgt. Gorilla here is blasting away with is standard issue, and not a "GG" (Gorilla Grip) model.

Pull the other one.

Hexxenhammer11 Apr 2008 8:36 a.m. PST

Star Spangled War Stories comics are only fantasy comics and have nothing to do with WWII.

Except the Enemy Ace ones, which actually don't have anything to do with WWII.

I see your point Mr Davies but I'm not entirely convined that this slightly pulp alternate ww2 is going to adversely dilute an incredibly strong and popular genre of historical wargaming or the content on this forum, or that an uninformed audience is going to somehow mistake it for reality.

Its really not my thing, I doubt I'll ever feel the need to game pulp/alternate ww2, but thats not the point. I came into this discussion largely because I saw a poster being flamed for his work. That irks me deeply. It takes a great deal more courage to post some of your work on a Forum, than it does to sit behind a onliner avatar and slag off someone.

Now is it because we need a new section? Maybe. Thats not my decision. I really think there are more boards than there needs to be.

Scenics and Terrain? ww2 split up into its various scales?

I don't think anyone has been critical of the model or Almaric. Quite the reverse. Everyone (including myself) has given it praise.
The model or its creator isn't the problem. Its whether it belongs in a WWII forum in the first place.

Maybe the powers that be can create a "filing" functionality where the group "votes" for where it should live – the highest votes is where it resides.

One account – one vote.

This way we as a population collectively decide where it resides.

Kind of like Diggin' an article if you know what I mean.

Oh, and nice walker!
