picture Has anyone tried cutting up and using these smaller 20 oz plastic bottles as huts for their fantasy and/or SF terrain pieces? What paint works best on that type of plastic? Thanks. CC |

I guess that the top of those bottles could be used as "domes" for buildings and towers too, right? CC |

You know I have never thought of that before. I'll be you could also use them as molds for some more sturdy plaster terrain. I suppose if you use a good spray paint you should have no problems with it adhering to the plastic. -Joe |

Krylon Fusion is made for Plastic. I'd give that a try. Someone on the SST Boards made some bug nests from melting/deforming the tops of 2 liter bottles. |

Chris Passeno: thanks for the suggestion. I have tried all different kinds of paint- sprays, glues, etc. but could not get anything to stick with the plastic bottles. Once it flexed it came off in chunks. I don't know if it available in Japan but I will have a look around. Some of the big bottles over here have are square or rectangular with rounded corners so I was going to do a system of corridors by cutting them in half and lining them up. It went well until I tried to paint them. |

Someone here made inflatable Sci Fi tents out of the bottom of liter ones (I think its on Terra Genesis) |

CC, I have used powerade bottles as storage tanks in the past. After washing the empty bottles with a little Dawn, any spraypaint will stick to them. take a look. link |

Here are a couple uses for them. ironhands.com/h2_pt0.htm picture I also recall a site that turned them on their side and made them into buildings. Well to be more accurate, I recall the project
Not the site. :) |

I use the 1.5 liter bottles as powerplant or security towers: link I also have a bunch of those empty Poland Spring "Aqua Pods" which I planned on using for liquid gas or other storage tanks. They look like this: picture |

Here is a the terragensis articles: link link I have cut square bottles and laid them on their sides to make pre-fabricated buildings/shelters. |

Hey those are cool. Nicely done! |

I've kept a few similar bottles because I liked the shape of the top. Not done anything with them yet though. |

Better horde them fast. I've seen Super Soaker has made a water gun that uses 20 oz. bottles as it's water tank, to be sold this year. |

I'm thinking that the top third of the bottles could be used as domes for the Atlantean outpost of Opar (in Tarzan novels): TMP link Or maybe for some Alien settlement. The bottom thirds could be used as Alien huts of some sort too. CC |

I've seen som great designs. There was one company, Fiji I think it was, that had a marvellous crystalline design to the top of their bottles. I'll have tos ee if I can find them again. |

Hrmph.. Not sure. The only bottles I'm seeing are the square-ish ones for them. I think it may have been an older design if it was. No, these were glacier-esque topped bottles. My Google-fu is weak today. I shall swing by the supermarket where I last saw the design and see if it is still extant. |

"glacier-esque topped bottles" Oooo. I can see it now . . . an alien settlement on Antarctica, with domes, towers, turrets, minarets, etc., made of ice! CC |
Robin Bobcat | 20 Mar 2008 12:27 p.m. PST |
Exactly! And here it is: Icelandic Glacial icelandiclglacial.com Reason I thought they were Fiji was because they were *next* to the Fiji bottles at the store. It gets better: Apparently, they use four different bottle necks, which means that your different huts will all look different! Hmm.. these would make pretty good terrain bits, too. Just rattlecan 'em, and you've got instant rocks, ice, etc. |

Robin: You wouldn't happen to know where they got the models for that? Yowza! If its the water they're drinking, I may hae to buy a few dozen cases of it and hand around at work. Improve the scenery there first, then on my games table! |

Iceland, probably. Yes, quite the bit of scenery

When I finally get home, I might spray Fleck-Stone (or similar spray textured paint) and see if I can make them look like stone domes. CC |
