Heh. Ya'll only THINK it's short for Mike Mitchell. It's actually a complex code that can only be cracked by those who know the innter workings of the writings of the Mad Arab! Someday, when the stars are right
Okay. It's just my name. ;-/ |

wrgmr1 | 20 Feb 2008 11:26 a.m. PST |
I use this on E-Bay, and when it came time to sign up up on TMP, I thought why not use the same thing. Didn't realize I'd spend so much time on here, nor find it as usefull as it has been. I was actually trying to think of another name, haven't come up with anything yet. |
Veteran Cosmic Rocker | 20 Feb 2008 11:29 a.m. PST |
Spider = my nickname at school (from my surname Webb). Col Spider was a character I had in a TSATF campaign played with some friends, (that is me) had the distinction of winning the campaign – mainly by running away from the action at the most convenient time (we were awarded points for achieving things in the campaign, things like killing her most Pathans, staying alive). Doing a "Col Spider" was often shouted out for some time after, whenever a unit routed off the table. |

tinned fruit | 20 Feb 2008 12:09 p.m. PST |
From a friend's worst chat up line:- "What's your favourite tinned fruit?" He usually got slapped when his follow up was:- "in syrup or natural juices?" Sparky where are you now? |
SultanSevy | 20 Feb 2008 12:20 p.m. PST |
SultanSevy is a meld of 2 things: Sultan = taken from the name of my miniature wargaming group (Sultans of Severnia) Sevy = my nickname which I've had since I was a kid (short for Severino, my last name) |

La Long Carabine | 20 Feb 2008 2:31 p.m. PST |
I dropped the 'ue' from 'La Longue Carabine' long ago to fit into an old system's user id, and I have just kept it that way. It is, of course, my favorite nickname for Nathaniel ("Natty") Bumppo from "Last of the Mohicans"
"The Hurons stood aghast at this sudden visitation of death on one of their band. But as they regarded the fatal accuracy of an aim which had dared to immolate an enemy at so much hazard to a friend, the name of "La Longue Carabine" burst simultaneously from every lip, and was succeeded by a wild and a sort of plaintive howl. The cry was answered by a loud shout from a little thicket, where the incautious party had piled their arms; and at the next moment, Hawkeye, too eager to load the rifle he had regained, was seen advancing upon them, brandishing the clubbed weapon, and cutting the air with wide and powerful sweeps. Bold and rapid as was the progress of the scout

Olaf the hairy | 20 Feb 2008 3:29 p.m. PST |
from Blackadder goes forth: Captain Blackadder "so, you're a chap are you Bob?" Bob "0h yes sir, yo ho ho, grrr grr" Blackadder "you wouldn't say you're a girl at all?" Bob "Definatly not sir. I understand cricket, I fart in bed and everything" Blackadder "Well, let me put it another way, Bob. You are a girl, and you're a girl with as much talent for disguise as a girraffe in dark glasses trying to get into a Polar-Bears only golf club." Bob "Oh sir, please don't give me away, sir. I just wanted to be like my brothers and join up. I want to see how a war is fought, so badly" Blackadder "Well you've come to the right place, Bob. A war hasn't been fought this badly since Olaf the Hairy, High Chief of all the Vikings, accidentaly ordered 80,000 battle helmets with the horns on the inside. Bob "I want to do my bit for the boys, sir." Blackadder "Oh, really." Bob "I'll do anything, sir" Blackadder "Yes, I'd keep that to yourself if I were you, Bob." |

By rolling too many double sixes while playing battletech especially when one is to hit and the other is for an headshots which I seems to get a lot of :) well more than my far share much to the dismay of my enemies :) |

I was called Platypus at university (don't ask), and I tend to see a lot of them when I go fishing so I like them, and the 01au thing is to make it unique. |
Wargame4fun | 20 Feb 2008 6:59 p.m. PST |
Its the reason I stay with this hobby. Winning is nice but the play is the thing. |
John the OFM | 20 Feb 2008 7:57 p.m. PST |
I may as well do all my names
John the OFM is me at home, and for about a year at my last job. The others were started as separate accounts on various different computers, mainly due to my inability to remember passwords. I might point out that no deception was ever intended, and I always notified Bill that that guy was me, too. Back in Days of Yore, Chuck the Elephantmeister was handing out "meister" names and titles on the WAB group. He graciously granted me the title "Oldfahrtmeister", and I began signing off that way. Someone said "The OFM said
" and the rest is hitory. The reason I asked for that name is more obscure. I dropped out of the hobby in 1986 (got married) and dropped back in in 1996 (got divorced). Immediately, I started acting like "we did things better back then". The rest is also history. Cat Shannon is the protagonist of Frederick Forsyth's "The Dogs of War". Terrific book, almost a technical manual on how to overthrow a tiny African "republic". I doubt I will resurrect him, since his death was rather final, and his reanimated corpse seems to belong to everyone. Give the poor man some peace! Doctor Inkengwye came about when I was being pestered by Nigerian oil ministers. His name is also inspired by a character in "The Dogs of War", but is made up. A minor, yet important character. I hope the name does not mean anything horrible in any Nigerian dialects. Well, maybe I do. Frodo Corleone should be obvious. What if the useless brother was a halfling? Willaim Pitt the Eldar is a many layered pun on me, and all my interests. There are interpretations even I have not thought of yet, and are probably correct. I have at least 5 ways to tie the name to me. |

Boudica | 20 Feb 2008 9:27 p.m. PST |
First name starts with "G" so I mostly go by gster, g4gster, or g4goddess, but figured this being a war\gamer habitat I oughtta dress the part. Hence en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boudica |
RabidFox | 20 Feb 2008 9:37 p.m. PST |
From achievement while in harness in service while part of a certain formation. Personally, I am a catperson which is the distinct irony of being this canid, but hold to this for those who did not walk home. |
kallman | 20 Feb 2008 10:15 p.m. PST |
The moniker comes from my coat of arms from bygone days in the SCA which was Vert a Batwinged Manticore sagent regardant argent in a border argent. Or in plain english a green field with a bat winged manticore sitting on its haunches with its head facing the viewer and the manticore is white and there is a white border around the perimeter of the device. So whitemanticore seemed a good moniker for TMP. |
Swampster | 21 Feb 2008 12:49 a.m. PST |
My place of abode since student days has been known as the Swamp (thanks to MASH and the general appearance). This became my login name on one forum and someone – Eclaireur I think – used the variation which has stuck. |

Lord Hypnogogue | 21 Feb 2008 5:44 p.m. PST |
My original nic was rogue67, my favorite stabby D&D character class and the year of my birth. I then became rivercityrogue. I live in Louisville, KY by the Falls of The Ohio River. I later became Hypnogogue due to my ability to lull people to sleep by merely speaking. I added the "Lord" after a Shakespeare related incident in the lounge. |

Mine is simple, I'm a Military Policeman in the Army Reserve, and a Deputy on my county Sheriff reserve. |
Last Hussar | 23 Feb 2008 7:09 p.m. PST |
The dash and elegance seems to have gone from modern life- where are the loonies who do stuff for the hell of it? Frankly the club know I can't be trusted in charge of equines- which is a pity, as I am the senior Union cavalry commander in our ongoing campaign. "Don't Charge" is a common phrase amoung other US generals. Last? – Any Hussar who isn't dead by 30
And I'm 39 today. So I must be the last (and a blackguard to boot!) All that dash and flamboyance made it my name aroud the net- When I was 12 I REALLY wanted an outfit like Adam Ant. If you see Froggy- thats me too(surname Hopping), as is The Mad Half Elf (used at Uni 20 years ago, and still haunting the odd high score table now) |

Duck Crusader | 08 Mar 2008 12:19 a.m. PST |
And here I thought you were a fan of the comic. A 'Duck' is a weekend shift worker, so called because until they're trained they have to follow a trained employee around which (with the continuous scarcity of long-term weekenders) leads to a trail of three or more new guys following one experienced hand a lot of the time, hence 'Ducklings. During the week it's 'puppies' who become 'Yard Dogs'. Since they're untrained they get easy loads/jobs, so a Duck load is an easy one. Therefore I'm actually a Crusader for easy work! |
