TheMackster Fezian20 Feb 2008 2:33 a.m. PST

My usual name is Mack (instead of Malcolm) and I've been using that since High School. When I first started actually registering with forums, Mack was too short (only 4 letters vice minimim 6) and usually already taken so added a bit to get Mackster.

Then, as I forgot my login passwords way back when I'd have to start a new account and just added "The" to the front so people would know it was me and ended up with TheMackster. (wonder how many Mackster accounts are still floating around as I come across some of my old posts when googling sometimes?)

I killed a man for it …

Thistledo20 Feb 2008 3:02 a.m. PST

This was the title of my occasional contributions to the fanzine Alarums & Excursions.
"Thistle" because I'm Scottish and "do" because as far as my contributions go "Thistle do for now" I like puns.

Ascent20 Feb 2008 3:30 a.m. PST

I needed a name and I'd just read a book called The Ascent of Science and thought Ascent sounded good.

Also I work with aircraft so it seemed to fit.

GildasFacit Sponsoring Member of TMP20 Feb 2008 4:46 a.m. PST

Badly spelled Latin for 'by Gildas' or 'Gildas made me' (should be fecit). As a 'Dark Ages' nut at the time it seemed appropriate to sign my work as one of Britain's earliest historians had done.

Cardinal Hawkwood20 Feb 2008 4:51 a.m. PST

well I am a Cardinal at some places and a Hawkwood at some others..so here I am both

auton120 Feb 2008 5:15 a.m. PST

I used to team play the original Unreal Tournament game in a league and that was my screen name. The origins of that? Lost/buried in time….

Martin Rapier20 Feb 2008 5:27 a.m. PST

Never quite got this internet thing of having a pretend name.

I got mine from my parents.

Big Martin20 Feb 2008 5:27 a.m. PST

At work we used to have 2 Martins in the same team at one time. At just over 6 foot and 250+ pounds I ended up as Big Martin whilst the other guy (5'6" ish and about half my weight) was obviously Little Martin.
The Martin bit as a first name comes from a German POW my dad was friendly with just after WW2 (we held onto some of them for a bit) called Kurt Martin Kreuziger. Apologies to any Kurts out there but I'm glad he went for Martin for my name.

Fat Wally20 Feb 2008 5:46 a.m. PST

Too short for my weight plus my middle name (Walter) which some of my family insist on calling me.

Royal Air Force20 Feb 2008 5:47 a.m. PST

cheese20 Feb 2008 5:47 a.m. PST

I got my name at summer camp, many years ago. It stuck. :D

Doc Perverticus20 Feb 2008 5:49 a.m. PST

Emperor Perverticus was just too……….. pretentious

It's an old Yahoo chatroom name. I used to change my name in there the way that other people would change their socks. I've also been known as;

GoofyBastid,
The alleged perpetrator,
Little pookie-oopums,
SwinkyTheCuteLittleVampire,
…and a whole slew of others that I just can't remember at this point.

alien BLOODY HELL surfer20 Feb 2008 6:01 a.m. PST

Originally I created the name back in 1996/97 as plain old Alien Surfer (which looking around the web has since been take and copyrighted by others some years later!) – then one day for some reason I changed it to my current name, and can't change it back cos Plnykes got drunk and stole the old one, then forgot the password ;-p (or something like that)

aliensurfer as a name was created as the web was getting more and more popular, and in the anonymity of the web, who could tell if an alien entity was surfing it? :-)

Goldwyrm20 Feb 2008 6:08 a.m. PST

It started when I won a free domain name registration at an IT trade show. I was on the spot to register a name then and there, so tapped into D&D for some inspiration. I never did anything with the domain, but have used it as my anonymous handle since.

jizbrand20 Feb 2008 6:34 a.m. PST

First initial, last name. I'm the same me here as I am in real life.

Cke1st20 Feb 2008 6:38 a.m. PST

I wanted a good Bible reference that would fit on a license plate and was a little different from the norm. It's pronounced "Cee kee first," a homonym on "Seek ye first" (as in Matthew 6:33), and I seem to be the only one on the Net with that name. I never did get the license plate, though.

Dammitboy20 Feb 2008 6:43 a.m. PST

Between two jobs and family, this is what I feel like.

Henrix20 Feb 2008 6:47 a.m. PST

My real name, with a new ending some friends picked when I painted too many gauls.

nycjadie20 Feb 2008 7:06 a.m. PST

Jadie was the name of my great grandfather who served in WWI for the U.S. It's an old family name and is now my middle name. Years ago I was signing up for e-mail addresses and jadie was always taken. My given names are pretty average and are always taken. So, as my middle name is a bit more unusual I tried to pick that. Still unavailable. I added "nyc" for my home town. I thought it was easier to remember than a string of numbers.

Baggy Sausage20 Feb 2008 7:20 a.m. PST

Third spear carrier20 Feb 2008 7:34 a.m. PST

Third spear carrier is about the lowest billing you can get in theatre and it's the level of role I always end up with. I have more enthusiasm than talent which also sums up my gaming, painting, model making etc etc grin

UltraOrk20 Feb 2008 8:09 a.m. PST

I was shopping for ork bits for my army when I came across this site and for some reason during the register process a scene from UltraMan popped into my head.
And Bob's your uncle.

A Synflood is an old type of Denial of Service (DoS) attack, I work in Network Security and at the time I registered here on TMP I was also registering on various Hacker sites. I have created various ghost communication accounts to support the nic synflood also. I like to keep my various accounts nics to a minimum.

Mom & Dad aussi.

Doctor Bedlam20 Feb 2008 9:35 a.m. PST

At the time I generated my nick, I was floor supervisor in a mental hospital, night shift. "Doctor Bedlam" just sprang to mind. It also wound up being my email address.

I later discovered it was also the name of a comic book supervillain, which some would regard as entirely appropriate for me.
