maxpower19 Feb 2008 8:33 p.m. PST

I swiped my TMP name from an episode of the simpsons where homer changes his name to max power. I liked it not only because it sounds cool but also because it doubles for maximum power.

mweaver19 Feb 2008 8:45 p.m. PST

Mom and Dad gave me mine (m = Michael).

Condottiere19 Feb 2008 8:51 p.m. PST

Yup, like MWEAVER, I got mine from mom and dad.

Streitax19 Feb 2008 8:57 p.m. PST

Old D&D moniker (Streitax = battle axe in German), for an old D&D player. Back when it was REAL D&D. The three volume set and Chainmail by Gum! None of these wimpy psionic attacksy by Rogue/Elf/Dwarf/Centaur crossbreed. Oh, excuse me, I guess that's fusions, or is that from Star Trekkies/ers? Where was I? Oh, yes, these dad gum new D&D rules, why I remember this one time……

CPBelt19 Feb 2008 8:58 p.m. PST

From a Conrail train junction in Reading, PA. I used to hang out there sometimes. Control Point Belt (the old "Belt Line Junction" on the Reading Railroad.)

It was easier than writing the name of the place where I always hung out, CP Wyomissing. wink

Now you know too much.

Evil Bobs Miniature Painting19 Feb 2008 9:05 p.m. PST

It's the name of my business. I got the Evil Bob moniker from my fencing instructor. People said I was intimidating.

captain arjun Fezian19 Feb 2008 9:12 p.m. PST

I'm a captain, and my name is arjun.

Lee Brilleaux Fezian19 Feb 2008 9:16 p.m. PST

I am Senor and Senora Squint's eldest boy. I have brothers called Guatemalan Jimmy and Nicaraguan Pete. I have sisters called Honduran Sue and Costa Rican Annie.

We all come from the West Midlands.

Lentulus19 Feb 2008 9:17 p.m. PST

When I started gaming (1973 or so), we played Charge! Several of the examples in the book describe an inept opponent named Lentulus. As I was quite inept, I was assigned the nickname.

Tankrider19 Feb 2008 9:17 p.m. PST

"Officers aren't Tankers, Lieutenant, they're Tankriders."

Don Johnson19 Feb 2008 9:22 p.m. PST

The agreement was Dad got to pick the boy names, and Mom would name the girls. The swimmers and the eggs didn't get the memo, apparently – two boys – and Mom got shut out.

Dad had no idea that an actor would come along to make the name famous, or notorious. I think the actor's older than me by a few years; I have no idea if that is his real name.

This IS my real name.

Holy Roman Emperor Joseph III Fezian19 Feb 2008 9:23 p.m. PST

When I was in High school I declared myself Holy Roman Emperor. I figured that if the German nobility didn't want me as their emperor, they would vote me out. I have yet to hear any dissent or objection to my legitimacy as emperor. There were two Holy Roman Emperors before me named Joseph. Thus I am Holy Roman Emperor Joseph III, first Polish emperor of the Germans.

Character I created to use in my otherwise quite proper History course tests. It just hung on.

chonk3419 Feb 2008 9:30 p.m. PST

When I was young I would repeatedly yell, "Chonk!" at my sister when she attempted to tell me something. 34 is Hakeem Olajuwon's jersey number. He played basketball for the Houston Rockets.

My real name's (Christopher Robin) origin is fairly obvious.

the trojan bunny19 Feb 2008 9:38 p.m. PST

You're not a true gamer unless you know where my name is from!

Personal logo Parzival Supporting Member of TMP19 Feb 2008 9:39 p.m. PST

This explains mine adequately. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parzival

I chose it because I studied the work in college and felt an affinity for the knight Parzival, with his humility and his devotion to his faith and his wife— character traits I think it would be worthy to follow. So I chose the name many years ago as my Internet identity (I am the first person to use the name on the Internet, to my knowledge), and I select it as my name of choice on the few forums I participate in. There are other Parzivals out there, but I am the first; the rest are just posers. grin

(Okay, I'm still working on that humility business.)

Personal logo Gungnir Supporting Member of TMP19 Feb 2008 9:44 p.m. PST

Gungnir is the name of Wodan's spear, the lightning. I was hit by lightning twice, once in my living room, the other time in my car. I took the hint.

artslave19 Feb 2008 10:13 p.m. PST

Wow, what doesn't kill you makes you Gungnir! My handle comes from years on the art show trail. As I made such tiny amounts of money, but couldn't seem to stop, it must be a compulsion or forced servitude to the Mistress Muse. I "slave" away at art with little to show for it but stacks of ruined canvas.

bloodeagle19 Feb 2008 10:14 p.m. PST

I used this as an alias back in my Darkzone days and it sort of followed me.Its a nasty thing that Vikings used to do to those who annoyed them alot.

Cufflink19 Feb 2008 10:14 p.m. PST

My nickname from my teens.

My bezzie mate originally gave me the name, and I don't remember where he got it from, but he was a bit of a mentalist, so it could mean anything.

Rattlehead19 Feb 2008 10:17 p.m. PST

I've been going by Rattlehead online (and on the CB!) for a long, long time. I originally picked up the nick from the old Megadeth song, as it's what I am – a head-banger.

However, I've since heard that the term "rattlehead" has an older meaning that pre-dates it's modern usage. I don't recall now what it was or where I found the info though.

Rattlehead19 Feb 2008 10:18 p.m. PST

I used to go by MadCat WAY back when… An obvious BattleTech reference.

Grunt186119 Feb 2008 10:34 p.m. PST

If it looks like a Grunt, smells like a Grunt and sounds like a Grunt, it's an ACW gamer that was in the US Army Infantry for 8 years. Oh yea, 8 is enouph.

Black Cavalier19 Feb 2008 10:43 p.m. PST

Was a cavalier in the Society for Creative Anachronism & my dress outfit was black velvet.

Chogokin Fezian19 Feb 2008 11:12 p.m. PST

I've been a big fan of Japanese giant robots since childhood. Such might warriors, such as Great Mazinger, could not be forged of mere ordinary steel. Instead, they are made of Chogokin (Super Alloy)!

Charles Marlow19 Feb 2008 11:27 p.m. PST

Ost Grenadier? Years ago my cousin and I were gaming a 40K WWII mod called Warhammer Panzer Battles and, when playing the late war period as the German army, you could buy cheap conscript platoons who were composed of levies from occupied Eastern European countries who were refered to as Ost Grenadiers.

Pictors Studio19 Feb 2008 11:45 p.m. PST

My name comes from the noise that happens when you bite into a pineapple ring. When pineapple is really good I like it a lot, it is one of my favourite foods. When it isn't so good I barely like it at all.

So that is what I named my business.

DyeHard19 Feb 2008 11:56 p.m. PST

Mine is part of the name of a business I use to have.

I ran a paintball outfit for about 15 years. I had a lot of clients from two different near by universities. They started calling me "DyeHard" as I was almost always the front man telling them how to play, the rules, etc. The most public speaking I have ever done. So as long as I live that part of DyeHard Paintball Supply will live on.

At first, it was strange to be walking down the street and someone would yell out "DyeHard" at me. But I got very use to it over time.

I'd like to know where Sam Mustapha gets his odd nicknames from, though … usually something to do with body parts (such as spleens and kidneys) in odd sentences, though his latest one is just … er … I don't know.

I was killed at Cannae and alas the gods found my valour wanting (back wound you see, and I screamed like a school girl) and did not allow me to pass into the realms of the dead. They doomed my spirit to aimlessly haunt the TMP boards.

My name is Philip. I'm English.

Many years ago my wargame buddies, I can't remember who started it, started calling me Phillius The Greek. Which is my ebay moniker.

I shortened here because I was in a hurry when I joined up.

Chthoniid20 Feb 2008 12:54 a.m. PST

Chthoniid:
(a) because I'm a little bit evil
(b) I used to study false scorpions, typically the family Chthoniidae
(3) It means pertaining to the underworld, and I'm from the world downunder.
(4) It has great google-fu. Put it into a search engine, and it doesn't take long to find me somewhere…

Its because I am fond of Tabasco pepper sauce and the 2152 bit was my old internal phone number from corporate days where I was known as tabasco.
