I have moved into an area where I thought I would never , ever, ever, tread. As a response to playing in a pirate game, and probably having to paint too much WWII, I had a bright idea with what to do with some Crusader Austrians I had lying around…I have begun a fictitious SYW force, see the beginings here

NOOOOOO! Next you'll be painting Sci Fi stuff, maybe even 40K stuff!

Nice buildings and figures, and I do fear the Spanish Inquisition. I have nightmares about the comfy chair.

I'm your father, give in to the dark side

shelldrake17 Jan 2008 4:17 p.m. PST

Very nice – the only reason i haven't given in to the dark side is i am waiting for more Eureka 18mm figures to be made, but it calls very hard to me.

The Gray Ghost17 Jan 2008 5:46 p.m. PST

I like 28mm for this as it gives Me the ability to game both battles and small skirmishs with figures I know 15/18mm will never come out with, West Wind, Blue Moon and so on.

The Gray Ghost17 Jan 2008 5:58 p.m. PST

There's also some good fiction out about an alternate 18th Centuries.

G'day, Grey Ghost.

Apparently the Russkies are about to make an appearance at Eureka. I'm picking some up next weekend at CANCON. If you'd like me too, I'll post some pic's of them for you.

Cheers.

Dal.

PS Yer Eminence, welcome to the period, Chris. How many periods is that, now? grin

The Gray Ghost18 Jan 2008 7:19 a.m. PST

Good Morning to You Dal Gavan and Yes I'd be interested in see them.

What could I say, besides "BRAVO"!

So whe know the name of your Imagi-Nation -the Heritary Bishopric of Kopf-Schlager, the name and uniform of one of its regiment -IR Graf Johan von Ramone… what about its national flag?

How next posts with appear on "The Slouch Hats & Stens Public House Forum"? I should like to add a link to Kopf-Schlager on my blog link (would be the 53rd to a blog at least partly devoted to a Lace Wars Imagi-Nation): will the link provided here work for future posts dealing with the Bishopric (I'm totally unfamiliar with that kind of forum)?

Not a step towards Orks, I think, yet maybe a step away from 'hyper-historicity'. And with respectable precedents: of the 4 British 'Founding Fathers' of what we know as wargaming -a popular hobby- 3 used Imagi-Nations, and among them P."Charge Or how to play wargames" Young & Charles "The Wargame" Grant TMP link campaigned in a fictitious WAS / SYW Europe.

It may have struck you at midle-life, but for me link (and most of the founders of the Old School Wargaming Yahoo group) the 'catching' dates from the reading of either of these 2 inspirational and seminal books.

Waiting eagerly for further developments of the Bishopric of Kopf-Schlager, the decisions of Cardinal-Prince Hawkwood and the exploits of his regiments,
Cheers,
Jean-Louis

I did that once with 15mm. Trouble is I wanted them done fast and spray painted one side white and the other side gray and painted flesh, facings etc. It was too boring and I sold them.

Cardinal Hawkwood18 Jan 2008 5:33 p.m. PST

Oh dear, mid life crisis time, I am looking at 10mm figures to campaign with Prince Eugene and John Churchill with for mine.

Cardinal Hawkwood20 Jan 2008 4:38 p.m. PST

ok no problem I do need a good literal German translation for the clause," Hey ho, lets go" , the flags will be an 18th century version of the Ramones eagle , with the baseball bat colonels colours in white, regimental colours in red and facing colour stripes.. the motto of course is " ein, zwei, drei, vier…." I am currently doing a set of figures for each regiment, a sort of David Morier dropped in with his strange friend , The Doctor, in that mysterious blue box horseless carriage thing, the Doctor seemed to be on very good terms with the Von Ramone family, they admired his foot wear, some odd plimsoll things that he called "jim boots"
by the way everybody feel free to link our forum..

Cardinal Hawkwood20 Jan 2008 4:39 p.m. PST

Fred , thats not a midlife crisis, that is much too sensible..

Cardinal Hawkwood20 Jan 2008 4:42 p.m. PST

actually I am doing WAS Baverians as well, which come cloes to fictitous, though are not quite there compared to Fusilier Regiment Chevalier Robert Von Geldorf, my "Irish" regiment in the Kopf-Schlager orbat..

Cardinal Hawkwood20 Jan 2008 4:43 p.m. PST

Geldof….

Cardinal Hawkwood20 Jan 2008 4:46 p.m. PST

Actually Dal , thinking about it , Seven Years War has been one of my periods since 1976…so it is my second period after the initial heady rush of ancients in 1975

Cardinal Hawkwood20 Jan 2008 4:47 p.m. PST

hope to see you at CanCon..

abdul666lw21 Jan 2008 3:33 p.m. PST

Cardinal Hawkwood,
looking forward for more troops from the the Kopf-Schlager orbat (OK, we already know the general features of the Prince-Bishop own regiment, but…).
What does the Kopf-Schlager banner look like?
Anywhere to post your written 'background' and storyline?
Cheers,
Jean-Louis

Cardinal Hawkwood21 Jan 2008 4:18 p.m. PST

I was just doing some work on a few figs… will post them up when i finish them and post a story when I finally workm it all out! motto, in German is , of course 1,2 3.4 Hey ho let's go..still need a German translation

Brownbear22 Jan 2008 10:27 a.m. PST
