Wow! Thanks chaps! I'll look out for the Fletcher book. I was in BA in August and it stirred a desire to game this. The military museum there has a number of artifacts and a couple of good dioramas. Andrew, fret not I can wait. Tony, thank you very much. Can I possibly push it a little further? Does 'Los Uniformes del Estado Militar de Espana del Ano 1815' have a listing of troops avaialble in 1760? I have another project whic is to game the Colonia do Sacramento Campaign and information on the troops on both sides is very scarce. |

Alas, no. The only dates for the troops in the Provincias del Rio de la Plata given are the ones I cited. However, comparison to the other listing for colonies where there are dates given does indicate that the Spanish were raising local militia units well before this time in the Americas, so it is likely that this did occur and it's a reasonable guess that it would have been in at least the major settlements like Buenos-Ayres and Montevideo. FYI, the book also gives specific uniform details for the 3 regular units from Buenos-Ayres: Infanteria de Buenos-Ayres Casaca, chupa y calzon azules; collarin y vuelta encarnados; boton blanco. Thought you might like that information, too. Rick |

Carlos, I think Jose Maria Bueno's book "La Defensa del Rio de la Plata" might be of interest to you, if you are unaware of it: link I found the product listing on the Guinea Hobbies web site, which is where I bought the Lahoz & Gonzalez book. Rick |

I came across this excellent page from a Spanish language Web site. These are contemporary uniform prints: Tropas de guarnición en Buenos Aires en 1807: link |

That's actually a pretty useful site for Spanish uniforms through the ages. Thanks for the link. |
