I stopped by our local GW store in Katy TX and was told that the following changes are in the works . . . 1) Epoxy putty ("Green Stuff"/"Kneadatite") is going to come in a different size; and 2) Bases are only going to come in an "assorted" type of packaging (no longer in separate bags of small, medium and large) Can anyone else confirm this rumor? The second one seems profoundly stupid. If they wanted to do assorted as well as the others that would make sense. It seems that having different sized bases together would be more useful however. |

Of course, the store was out of those two items. People tend to hoard when they think something is going to be unavailable for a time, which simply speeds up the inevitable, right? CC |

I've moved away from GW bases, but I agree, that would be profoundly stupid. |

"Is it important?" For some of us it might be. CC |

Confirmed – they are already on GWUK. Someone in retail must have said – "These bags of bases take up too much space, lets consolidate them all into one bag!" Maybe a good idea space wise, but a horrible one marketing wise. We are definitely planning on bitting them out. :-) Neal |

It will be interesting to see what they will do on the putty. The newer kneadatite tube is a lot better than the old strip stuff as the two different sides dont ever touch (and cure) in the tube. Going to kneadatite directly has turned into a boon for us, there is a lot more value in their tube. I wonder if GW will go to a more value package. Neai |

Neal, Now you see why I ordered all that Kneadatite from you this week. :) CC |

Crud, I hope they don't do it with the clear plastic flight bases. I have no need for the big ones, but use a bunch of the small size. |
| Skeptic | 07 Dec 2007 4:38 p.m. PST |
With the new packaging, the GW-addicted may buy more bases than they actually require, so that GW will sell even more useless cr@p per addicted buyer

I knew they were repacking the square bases and mixing in all the various sizes but I thought they were leaving the round bases as they are. If not I better go and buy out the local stock. |
Hundvig | 07 Dec 2007 5:00 p.m. PST |
I'd heard the square bases were definitely getting mixed bags, nothing about the rounds or flight bases. Frankly, even if they mixed them it wouldn't bother me too much. I use a fair mix of sizes myself, and occasionally sell or trade off excess (mostly acquired in trades or garage sales) ones. Say what you will, I greatly prefer them to washer bases simply because of the weight difference. |

I was buying GW square and round bases mostly because they were conveniently packaged and readily accessible at the FLGS. Now I'll just rely on all the other plastic miniature base manufacturers that don't use wonky packaging. Condottiere – you can get 50mm round plastic bases without the "lip" from either Iron Wind Metals or Ral Partha Europe, as they were used for larger figures from the VOR game. IWM do not list them in their online store, but you can email them about it. RPE has them listed in their webstore: link . I'm sure there are other sources, but these leapt to mind. Another vote for profoundly stupid. |
| Broadsword | 07 Dec 2007 9:36 p.m. PST |
Condottiere – Yes, they will match. The Human-sized infantry figures from the VOR game were based with the 25mm round plastic slotted bases. The 50mm ones are of the same style and height, but no slots. Al | rivetsandsteam.com |

This is GW we're talking about – right? They don't do sensible. They only make decisions that don't make sense to anyone with more than a micro-gramme of common sense. So them deciding to change from the sensible separate packages of bases to mixed packs only is no surprise. And guess what – I won't be buying any. I only use two sizes regularly – 25mm round and 40mm round. |

I HATE the 'tube'
I've never had as much trouble with 'cured bits' in the strips as I did in trying to 'cut/mix' the stuff from tubes
I realize others use different 'ratios' of blue to yellow for different types of sculpting
but the 'strips' have always worked best for me
both the blue-yellow and 'aluminium' and other varieties. Just my 'tuppence'
but I can get my 'ribbon' from REAPER as long as it's still being made! *slish

Squares AND rounds. No pics yet, but links link link Says available now -- 5 pounds sterling/bag. I heard $8 USD in the US, but I guess it could go to $10. USD

To me the square bag seems especially yucky. |
| nycjadie | 08 Dec 2007 7:25 a.m. PST |
I understand GW's logic. It really screws the guy who is basing old or new miniatures from a different manufacturer. |
| anevilgiraffe | 08 Dec 2007 9:56 a.m. PST |
actually those numbers don't bother me that much
I use a variety as well
the bulk are the 25mm rounds, but when those run short there is always Heresy

This new scheme is one of the dumbest package schemes that they have come up with in a while. |

I'm STILL glad I stopped buying GW back in the mid-1990s |

This really blows if you buy bag after bag of large round bases for tree stands. I had already heard this repackaging rumor when the LGS ran out of bases. |
| Crucible Orc | 09 Dec 2007 1:30 p.m. PST |
Are they tossing the 50mm monster based out? Or are they still coming in separate packs? Anyone know? I only really use 40 and 60mm rounds, and 50mm square. we base our 25/28mm napoleonic figures on these. WE will all be supremely ed off. |

Condottierre, Broadsword, those bases that IWM use for largew Vor miniatures are 60mm diameter rounds. |

| Timothy L Mayer | 07 Jan 2008 5:38 a.m. PST |
Really shouldn't be a problem with the contact point in the strips. Most likely the manufacturer has just decided to scrap that packaging method. |
Hundvig | 07 Jan 2008 8:53 a.m. PST |
Frankly, even if they mixed them it wouldn't bother me too much. I use a fair mix of sizes myself, and occasionally sell or trade off excess (mostly acquired in trades or garage sales) ones. OTOH, I *do* mind that the price jumped from ~$6 to $8 USD with the new packaging, which is also horribly uneven in the numbers of each type of base in a pack. Less convenient and more expensive? Stuff it GW, Renaissance Ink gets my business from now on. |
| RastlWorld | 07 Jan 2008 12:18 p.m. PST |
I don't do ANY GW stuff but the bases were a good value for other projects. Now, I'm off to Litko for my stuff. I prefer the plastic ones with the lip but I'll get what I can. Mixed sizes is just stupid. |
| Barks1 | 07 Jan 2008 7:19 p.m. PST |
I need a lot of round 25mm slotta bases and my local store said they don't carry them any more, which rather surprised me- but then I hadn't seen this thread. A mixed bag of round- dumb. I've already got bags of 40mm and 60mm round- very useful. |
