Do people know a specific set of (FREE!) wargamerules covering the 2nd Boer War? (Looked at various sites, but can't find any.) |

Personally, I'd use a WWI set but tell the Britisgh its a colonial game. |

And which part of the war? |

20mm I think. Not yet decided; orientating. First part with larger battles looks nice, and there is the later skirmishing caracter. Well, perhaps a bit of both? |

Whattroop ratio would be my question. Skirmish (man to man); Tactical (1:10/20) like TSATF Or Operational up to 1:50. Glory is available FREE to members of MAGWEB. These were written for Skirmish. Induanas, Colonels and Emirs are written for tactical with a unit concept. I will have to check and see who (site) has them. |

Tactical appeals most to me; skirmish I never like and operational seems like gaming a too large battle (?) or an entire theatre. |

Anything new? And what brands make nice miniatures; looking preferably for 20mm (otherwise 15mm). |

Old Glory 15mm has Boer War castings in 15mm. Essex has some as well. Most companies are in 25mm as skirmish level gaming is the most common for the Boer War.. |

Dear Erwin, I do have a set of free rules for the 2nd Boer War which I could send you if you give me your email address (they are in pdf). However 1) They are for 6mm (but could be adapted) 2) They are incredibly detailed 3) They are not always easy to follow (I suspect the author's first language is Afrikaans). However they are tactical rules and every damn thing you could think of is there. Andrew |

Strelets make several ranges for this war in 20mm plastic. The Plastic Figure Review quite likes them although personally I think some of the poses are OTT. Andrew |

Hi Andrew, I'd be pleased to have a look at your ruleset! My email is: erwinmk@yahoo.com Perhaps I can understand some of the Afrikaans-english? Im am Dutch! |

I saw Hat is making some Colonial British/Scots; masters look promising. |

Hi Andrew, do you mean the Gone to Earth rules? Just found them. How much figures per side do you need? |
| Andrew Wellard | 11 Dec 2007 2:39 a.m. PST |
Hi Erwin Yes those were the rules I meant, so they are still there. I have never played them, they look too detailed, but you could get a lot of information from them and pick and choose the bits you want. The only other dedicated SAW rules I have are not free, they are called By Jingo by Real Time Wargames and are supposed to be for 10mm. I inch = 100 yards – haven't played those either but the war is a long time project of mine and I expect I'll write my own rules if nothing else emerges. Andrew |

I think they're indeed too detailed and thus meant for 6mm (20-30 thousand men on a large battlefield; but they're good to make something of your own for 15-20mm. |
