Yep, I'm scouring for info again…and I know you are the guys to ask ;)

I'm currently building up 1/72 plastic figures suitable for The Fantasy Trip. so far I've got the usual old nonsense of men in and out of armour wielding axes, swords, spears and all other manner of sharp pointy things. I've done wizards by plopping pointy bits of gunk onto the heads of Hebrew fighters to make the traditional pointy hat, and I'm working on a couple of large beasts to make dragons – (I don't know yet if they will work or not.)

Anyway… I've burbled on inanely for long enough without getting to the point!

SO – I want some fearsome beasts of a smaller type. Wolves, bears, Crocodiles, giant snakes, rats etc. etc.

I don't really want to go down the Killer Sheep and Berserker cattle route….

Well there we are.. Suggest me up please.

At the moment, Michael's and Hobby Lobby are selling tubes of toy dragons for around seven bucks. Many are suitable for 1/72 scale dragons.

And for large animals, snakes, etc. some of the other Toobs contain real finds. I have a number of giant snakes and crocodiles from those.

HaT have the Jungle Adventure box – which is a reboxing of the old airfix Tarzan set

so you get croc's and big cats and lords of the jungle…

Italeri do a gladiators set which contains lions and bears as well as some gladiators which make very useful fantasy fighters

Orion (or is it strelets?) also do gladiators, can't recall if the set contains beasts, but some of the figures are quite, err, fantastical (if you see what I mean !)

Loved TFT. Still do actually.

Thanks 20thmaine. Those options sound like they are exactly what I am after. (I'd like to see photographs of the Hobby Lobby dragon offerings suggested by Doctor Bedlam too, if possible, but being in the UK that might not be an option.)

I've gone for the HaT version.

Not the easiest one to track down. Try it on E-bay.

type in HaT Jungle[/B] as a search……. Not ENTIRELY useful ;)………..Unless of course you are looking for a camoflage hat suitable for use in the jungle.

Eureka miniatures makes some 18mm fantasy that work okay with 20mm

LL Carabine.

Those Age of Mythology miniatures look excellent. I'll have to try to track those sprues down. they would probably cover most of what is needed.

Also might get some of those Splinter Lights wolves. They do look about right.

Just recieved the HaT Jungle adventure set, and would firmly recommend it.

I was worried that the sculpting would leave a little to be desired, as my experience with the 2 Motorcyle riders sets WW2 German with the ape like figures were my only HaT kits, left me with some doubt.

As well as the animals, which I was specifically after there are some useful figures in here too. Very little flash to contend with.

I'm not sure at this point when I will use a baby elephant, or a zebra….. But with fantasy you never know.

Hi Doctor Bedlam.

We don't have Hobby Lobby or Michaels over here in the UK. I'd certainly be interested in seeing a picture of the dragons in those tubes, and possibly get you to send a set over in exchange for something, either money or somethign that you can't get over there that I have access to in the UK.

So far I've got my dragon from the Heroscape set. It's OK, but does make a pretty enormous foe for the poor little 1/72 guys.

The Zebra looks awful donkey like. Might need one for a dungeon crawl.

The ex-reaper, now Noble mini's, 15mm Blooddawn Orcs are pretty much in scale and don't look over chunky next to Revell's HYW plastics. I don't know how the other races in the range measure up. Assuming the goblins are just 'small orcs' they should be okay. I know people have used 10/12mm orcs as 15mm goblins, but has anyone tried them as 1:72nd goblins?

Ferrous Lands13 Dec 2007 11:28 a.m. PST

Grenadier's old wolves are good. They're small wolves in 28mm scale, but good size wargs in 1/72. They used to be available from Discount Hobby (now the MegaMiniatures ebay store). They're also sold by Mirliton (in their Wood Elves range). I'm going to use them with Caesar's fantasy set for a DBA LOTR goblin army.

I found a Frost Dragon in the Dragonology™ Mini Figure Assortment.

ologyworld.com

It looks like about a seven hexer to me. Found mine a Target.
