Hi

I'm gong to be painting some Corsairs that where a mix of ex-night fighters (Korean vintage) and Day fighters WWII vintage.

My understanding is the night fighters where given a darker blue than the standard Glossy Sea Blue of the USN. Wondering if you guys have suggetions on what color to use.

Also any suggestion for the Gull Gray and the Glossy Sea Blue?

Since your question is for two colours, I will answer them separately:

Glossy Sea Blue: Vallejo has very few glossy colours in their catalogue and "sea blue" has no match. The FS number is FS15042.

"Dark" Gull Gray: Again, no direct Vallejo match. I do not know if there is anything close or not since I do not have a sample of the real paint. The FS number is FS36231.

Gull grey was not used on any Navy aircraft in WWII or Korea.
Navy camo for WWII is:
3 color:
Non Specular Sea Blue (FS35042)Top of fuselage and wing and tail leading edges.

Semi Gloss Sea Blue (FS25042) Top of Wings and fins
Non Specular Intermediate Blue (FS35164)Fuselage and tail sides.

and white, Underbelly

Late war was overall Sea Blue.

For Vallejo air paints use:
091 Insignia Blue for Sea Blue
005 Intermediate Blue for Intermediate Blue.

As for the night Fighters, most were colored in Flat black, if not Sea blue.

And the Vallejo color for FS36231 is 097 Grey Primer
