Was on there website and saw they had them listed. Very tempting.

In stock in North America at toysoldierhq.com

Picked this up on the website stating price and # of figs per box.

10.00 Caesar 101 Dwarfs, 35+ figures.

10.00 Caesar 102 Elves, 35+ figures.

10.00 Caesar 103 Undead, 35+ figures.

10.00 Caesar 104 Adventurers, 19 figures.

10.00 Caesar 105 Goblins, 35+ figures.

10.00 Caesar 106 Orc Warriors, 35+ figures.

Trapondur09 Nov 2007 12:48 a.m. PST

yes, I, too, had been waiting for a while for these, and now that they're out, I'm just ever so slightly underwhelmed. some are not all together that impressive, and most sets have four copies of most figures, so "35+" usually means 4x8 different ones, and a command group.

Here are some photos:

Set #1 Dwarves:

Set #2 Elves:

Set #4 Adventurers (with some random minis!):

But certainly a cheap option for truly large scale combat.

For boxes of plastic army, that is usually the case – a limited number of poses, with a number of identical figures. I know from a fantasy perspective things have usually been much more individual, but then when the figures were cast in white metal, you usually only got either individual figures, or perhaps a box of 5-10 or therebouts.

I'm going to get a full set,a nd will hold judgement until I hae them in my hand.

Boone Doggle09 Nov 2007 2:32 a.m. PST

Any pics anywhere?

I'm hoping some of these will work in 15mm.
Orcs and Goblins, in particular, are pretty cross-scale friendly.

1905Adventure09 Nov 2007 3:13 a.m. PST

I love the tag line on the Elves box.

"Noble Race Fight for You !!"

Awesome :D

I hope I don't sound patronising here, as I'm sure you already found them. But ry clickin on the PICTURE links in Trapondurs post. There is box art and contents for each set.

Yes, it really should say All your caves are belong to us !! on the goblins' box. :)

Boone Doggle09 Nov 2007 4:20 a.m. PST

Ooops. Typed too fast.

I meant comparison pics for size. A ruler or a height measurement would be great too. I really like the Goblins, esp their ears, and hope they will work in other scales.

I'm guessing the Goblins are ~20mm so might not work for 15mm but will be great for 28mm.

The Orcs I'm hoping will pass as Great Orcs in 15mm, or maybe some kind of Ogre depending if they are closer to 20mm or 24mm in height.

Lonkka09 Nov 2007 4:22 a.m. PST

Hey, this stuff looks good!
Then again, I've yet to see any Ceasar prodyucts that don't…

What's up next in this line?
Zombies whould have loads of potential use in this scale…

Jayster09 Nov 2007 4:43 a.m. PST

I've just been in contact with Peter of PBToys, and he has these in stock, ready to ship now.

Nice to see (from the box art) that caeser have remembered that in fantasy land women prefer to fight in the minimum amount of clothing. :-)

Not keen on the flap-eared troll.

Will be getting several boxes of each set !

Warbeads09 Nov 2007 5:43 a.m. PST

Any NON-Ebay pictures (firewall at work, etc.) available?

Warbeads09 Nov 2007 5:50 a.m. PST

If it even says e-bay, mail or other such words in the URL the firewall forbids the connection…

Jayster09 Nov 2007 7:36 a.m. PST

Not keen on the flap-eared troll.

Ditto. I wondr if it can be improved with ear removal and a bit of creative milliputting?

I've also heard back from ToySoldierHQ (at the start of this thread.) They also have stock ready to ship, and price for full set including carriage to UK is exactly the same as PBToys in Germany.

So…. You pays yer money, you takes yer choice!

Backyardpatrol09 Nov 2007 8:43 a.m. PST

Papa's gotta brand new scale! An in depth review of these would be indispensable (I'm looking at you Toy Soldier Review, time to broaden your horizons).
It's nice that the undead set is all over the road; there probably won't be any Zombie boxes (soon, how long were these being planned?)if the initial offerings aren't well received.
Still the production costs are high enough not to want to leave the whole line dead in the water.
Is the troll a chase figure?

Javier Barriopedro aka DokZ09 Nov 2007 9:16 a.m. PST

I really can't understand why the artwork is so underpar in soft plastic sets… These are certainly good business for the manufacturers.

Anyway, not keen on the goblins and the ubergoblin posing as a troll, but putty will certainly do the trick.

Dwarfs are tasty… I hope these sets are just the first wave. Of course that depends how much we buy, but I really would love to see some more sets. Cavalry is certainly a must.

Juba the Wolf09 Nov 2007 9:28 a.m. PST

The golden rule of fantasy-All women must be half naked Bleeped texts-otherwise teen-age geeks won't buy your product.

That said, the copyright infringement implications of the elves with both New Line and Games Workshop is worth discussing.

Blatant rip-off of copyrighted material, me thinks. Don't get me wrong, I love Caesar's historical line, but these elves were obviously thrown together using LoTR movie stills.

Then again it didn't stop them from following the first rule of fantasy and removing the clothes of the female elves, so they did add some 'creativity' to the process.

Unfortunately the more 'original' figures (orcs, dwarves, and most of the others) look more inspired by Warhammer than anything else. On the other hand maybe they should have stuck to just ripping off LoTR….

Trapondur09 Nov 2007 9:29 a.m. PST

Unlikely, about the troll.
The way I understand it, the troll and the fourteen (2x7 different) in the bottom three rows are in every box, and the top four left and right of the troll are the chase figures.

I'm not sure, though, how many chase figures there are.
Here is another photo of the sculpture masters with the lefternmost in the bottom row (the Gandalf one) probably being another one, but the photo doesn't show all, as the ax-wielding barbarian (topmost on the original photo) isn't even shown here:

Here are better photos of the masters:

Goblins: picture
Orks: picture

Trapondur09 Nov 2007 9:35 a.m. PST

they probably have some more to release, in case the initial boxes are a success, as here there are some to be seen, obviously prototypes, in there painted galleries, but that are not part of any of the six boxes.
And I doubt all of them are chase figures.

Sorry, the last two pictures obviously are of 1/72 metal miniatures they used to produce, but are now OOP, so they probably won't come in plastic again.

Charles Marlow09 Nov 2007 6:14 p.m. PST

They look ok.

Edwulf09 Nov 2007 7:22 p.m. PST

The dwarves look good, and the adventurers look nice. Not keen on the elves.

The metal series has been out for a couple of years now. Ceasars metal range known as MiniKnight. I just bought the complete set off eBay about a week ago.

Also comes with a set of metal mounted figures from that release.

I'm not much of a fantasy gaming fan, but I've had a copy of the "Hordes of the Things" rules in my collection for a while and the rules look like they'd be fun to play. These figures might be a relatively inexpensive way build a few armies for the rules and I think they look OK. I'll have to give this some thought.

"Armoured elf with bow or two-handed sword" is hardly copyright. The armour is in a different style, and you'll find plenty of minis in those poses that pre-date the LotR movies. For example, the elf-woman holding the bow horizontally behind her? I have a mini that looks very similar, but was made in 1983.

In the master previews for the adventurer set, a couple of the minis (the elf drawing the bowstring and the wizard) looked VERY like specific LotR sculpts (of Legolas and Gandalf). Interesting that the wizard mini is not in the released set, and the elf is looking pretty generic (he may have had a few tweaks to the pose – IIRC the Legolas sculpt has his foot on a rock).

Nice-looking minis, and Hannants finally have them up on the "Future Releases" section of their website.

Jayster26 Nov 2007 9:14 a.m. PST

These should be available from Hanants sometime in Feburary.

AWuuuu30 Nov 2007 5:25 a.m. PST

Ive bought my Adventurers from ebay

Troll is much better looking in real than in a pic
but ears are kinda worst part of the set

but i hate idea of chase minis
i wont buy second pack of this set (its kind of pointles) and random minis are in exact this one… ;/

Lee Brilleaux Fezian30 Nov 2007 6:59 a.m. PST

I'm not familiar with the term 'chase minis'. Can someone explain it?

MJS,
Thanks for asking. I was wondering that myself.
