"28mm Undead Roman Legions On the March!" Update at Maksim's Blog!

Hi Everyone,

I just published a new update on my blog featuring:

- A list of miniatures manufacturer sources for 28mm undead Roman Legionnaires.
- A bit of ranting about my 28mm undead armies project.
- Lots of info about Zvezda products with links.
- Some links to Zvezda undead galleries.
- A link to an awesome site with comparison photos of GW skellies and Zvezda ones.
- My usual ranting, raving and over-verbiage.
- A link or so as is my wont…

Check it out here:

I'd love to hear any constructive criticism, polite feedback, compliments, or other positive comments.

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

P.S.
I've crossposted at several forums.

I like how the armor on the Zvezda skellies is not a tight fight (it did sit on flesh before). The cavalry looks really cool too. Please post an update when you get yours going.

Nice finds, Maksim. I've been hunting all over for pics of what's in the Cursed legion boxes. I've always loved skeletons(like you I started with grenadier and Ral Partha) but never did an army of them. Recently helped my nephew do a tomb kings army and started adding my own stuff to it. I've been seriously considering buying Cursed Legion but didn't want to without knowing exactly what I was getting. Keep up the great work. I'll be in Russia next summer and will most likely hold off buying anything until then and bring some home.

I've been wanting to do a box of these guys for a couple of years now. Unfrtunately, the spousal unit has put me on The Pledge until I paint some more of my unpainted stuff :(

I look forward to pics of the figs as Maksim posts them!

I hate my internet service right now…

I love these figures, and these be the Skelingtons that I be wantin' ta paint fer ye… As I feverishly slip in pirate… Did I mention that I have a 103º temperature this week??? It has gone down.. But it is really annoying to try to keep a train of thought on the tracks at that speed…

I found a way to get Zvezda to display their gallery of elves too… I am going to need to get some of those too, to supplement the GW ones (Actually, they look as if they may compliment the Tom Meier ones better… and they don't have all of the freaking annoying blocked-in undercuts that GW's plastic LotR figues have (I have spent a week carving out the undercuts that could have been removed from these figures if they had just made them in two peices instead of one!!!)

When my brains are not on a slow simmer… I will email you…

I have painted one box of the infantry and one of the cavalry. The cavalry armour cannot be "historical" so I did not use it. They all look quite good painted. There's plenty of spares, particularly with the infantry, and the pila excess in particular can be used on other figures.

ghastlyco.com do Zombie legionnaries – I have a pack but it's part of the mountain at present.

Hi Guys,

Thanks to everyone for writing.

And thanks for all of the advice and comments that everyone left.

I'll be sure to feature more photos as I take them. And I'm going to try and take some later today and post them tomorrow. No promises though.

I did update the post with several of the suggestions that were made including Alionis and Mr. Ghastly.

Hope that everyone is doing well!

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Yes,

I'm also curious how they turn out as I have the complete Game Box but the prospect of cleaning and glueing zillions of small parts doens't make me that eager.

But I really like the concept of fantasy figures dressed like historical troops. Black Tree does some really nice Roman Dwarfs and we all know the excellent Vendil Fantasy armies.

So, Maxim, we want pictures :-) .

I like the Zvezda Undead Romans, but fater looking at the sculpts for their other products in this line.

They suck like a vacuum cleaner on crack (or is that a 'ho on crack???)…

I am thinking I may go check out those Roman dwarves… Although in my mind's eye…

Dwarves are not little Vikings of Norsemen, like many people invision them… In my mind's eye… They are little Dark Ages Russians…. That seems to be the concensus of others as well…
