Oh man I DEARLY hope someone here can help me!

I bought an entire Foundry army and need about forty 40mm square citadel monster bases to mount them on. But lo and behold, Citadel ain't making them anymore!! I am in DEEP doo doo, as this is supposed to be my winter project and I am SOOO wanting to paint! Does ANYONE have any of these bases they would be willing to sell, please?:)

Please email me at grenadierguardscampaigns@yahoo.com if you can help, I could really use some aid from some fellow wargamers!

Thanks!

Try Rennaisance Inks for bases:

Ah! Do you know if they match the GW ones?

AndrewGPaul03 Nov 2007 8:30 a.m. PST

GW still sell 'em.
75p each:

or 16 for £4:

In the US, it seems you need to buy them individually:

Hm I seem unable to order them tho from Games Workshops site, and the US GW doesn't think they will be available until Jan or Feb of 08.

Lord Ashram03 Nov 2007 8:43 a.m. PST

Oh, and they are all backordered from GW, even as single stands.

RobH03 Nov 2007 8:52 a.m. PST

I have a load spare, not sure exactly how many, but certainly more than forty. I am short on the GW 40mm round cavalry base so maybe we can do a deal.
Drop me a line:

GW's been out of stock on many of their bases for months now. The sales rep tells my local store owner that they're repackaging them (which probably translates to raising the price per base and making new bags for them) but in the interim, they're pretty much unavailable. Very irritating, but there are some other options out there.

If I had to hazard a guess, maybe this also a result of them tying up their plastics production line grinding out those huge Apocalypse sets? Not sure how much extra capacity there is in their system these days…

Kilkrazy03 Nov 2007 10:26 a.m. PST

If you don't need to match GW exactly, Litko Aero make an enormous range of bases in laser cut plywood.

They are repackaging them, but they're still only $8. USD What has changed is the contents. There will be two base 'sets', round and square. The contents according to GWUK's website:

Square Base Set – This set contains 20 x 20mm bases, 20 x 25mm bases 5 x cavalry bases and 5 x 40mm bases

Round Base Set – This set contains 30 x 25mm bases, 10 x 40mm bases and 10 x 60mm bases.

A great way to ensure you get plenty of bases you don't need and not enough of the ones you do need.

Tin Dictator looks like they sell what you're looking for (they're slotta-bases, square, 40mm: 8 for $2 USD US).

I had started a similar post about this a while back, all I can say s good luck. I had to track some down via Bartertown.

Kilkrazy04 Nov 2007 10:59 a.m. PST

You can also get plastic slotta-bases from Hasslefree Miniatures -- link

More like a great way to ensure that ebay is littered with auctions of unwanted bases.

And they weren't $8 USD locally, they were $5, so that's a steep price hike for a less useful product. The square base set is particularly rancid…not a lot of armies that use both 20mm and 25mm bases in WFB.

Ah well, the secondary market will be booming… :)

Lord Ashram04 Nov 2007 4:49 p.m. PST

GW sucks.

Who wants to mess around trading bags of plastic bases on eBay?

Much better just to buy the bases you want from other suppliers.

The Tin Dictator05 Nov 2007 8:09 a.m. PST

Just out of curiosity, why is it important to exactly match the GW bases ?

If the base is 40mm but slightly different will it cause problems?

Hundvig Fezian05 Nov 2007 8:56 a.m. PST

Aesthetics, mostly. Some people prefer (or insist on) a uniform look to their bases, and different companies' versions vary slightly. Most noticeable with those "hollow" round base designs Privateer (among others) use, really.

Lord Ashram05 Nov 2007 2:36 p.m. PST

Hey all!

Thanks for the responses… the only reason I want to stay with GW is I've already done other units in the army with GW bases and I do want the units to match within the army.

Genesteeler05 Nov 2007 2:51 p.m. PST

There is also a very small but noticable (to me) difference between the bases used by Crocodile Games and GW bases. I really can't mix the two not that there is much call to do so for me.

From now on I guess I'm going to Litko bases!

The Inquisitor26 Nov 2007 11:30 p.m. PST

Wow, chalk up another reason for getting out of that hobby.

Pyruse27 Nov 2007 4:11 a.m. PST

Another good reason for making your own bases whenever possible….

Edwulf27 Nov 2007 4:40 a.m. PST

Yeah, pretty annoyed. Im in need of 12 cavalry bases for LOTRs though the infantry bases might come in handy for other stuff. Still Id rather just buy the one type.

I don't know if I mind this for 40K though; I'm always needing all these bases anyway, and what happens- I buy $20 USD worth of bases. So, $8, not so bad.

Still GF9's quart of bases is the way to go. And they have ovals, squares, hexegons, etc.

Lord Ashram23 Dec 2007 7:22 a.m. PST

If I hadn't already done an entire sister army on GW bases I wouldn't have minded. Thankfully, a load of people have come forward and gotten me bases, so it looks like I will be okay!

Although now I find myself looking for 50x50mm bases… *sigh*

frankthedm09 Mar 2008 9:02 p.m. PST

Glad you found the bases you needed. GW base packs had been a decent deal at $5, not so great at $8. USD

Round 40mm replacements are easy. Poker chips fit the 40mm size quite often.

Dreamblade minis bases were 40MM squares with slightly rounded edges. The game went under so ebay has the pieces cheap enough [watch out for shipping gouging sellers]. They cut off the bases with a little effort, giving one a square base AND an often intriguing, sometimes useful mini.

50mm Square… tough one. Round 50mm is easily covered by a 2 inch metal washer. 4 one inch based carefully glued together would work.
