I haven't seen anybody making them but that looks like a sculpting project that shouldn't be too awfully intimidating…

What's that second picture from?

jawjatek31 Oct 2007 7:16 p.m. PST

Couldn't you just used some fresh snow peas?

I don't know if they will work but go to armorcast's website. The guys are producing the old Dark Legion Drop Pods as an Alien Birthing Pod. They are probably bigger than you wnat but it can't hurt to scope it out and maybe talk to Ginfritter or ArmorcastMatt. They are open to suggestions for new products.

Check out the pods here: link

How about milkweed pods? I'm not sure I've ever seen an artificial one, but you could always check the floral section of the local craft store.

Could you get a real milkweed pod, dry it out, and spray it with something to harden/preserve it?
I can see them being useful as alien plantlife as well…

Cacique Caribe31 Oct 2007 8:10 p.m. PST

Milkweed pods? Never even heard of them!

Thanks!!!

didn't armorcast make them at one time?

Brussel sprouts?

Thieses01 Nov 2007 6:07 a.m. PST

CC I made a bunch of pods by taking bottle caps and "folding" them in half. Paint them up, and they look awsome. They are super cheap, and they look like a 28mm scale body would fit into them.

They are also available all year round.

mattblackgod01 Nov 2007 6:40 a.m. PST

Brussel sprouts are Body Snatcher pods??? ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!

IttyBitty01 Nov 2007 1:08 p.m. PST

Yes, they are angry little cabbages….

Hmm, that would also be a very good way to make large sci-fi Venus Fly Traps maybe…

QUESTION: Are there photos anywhere of what the pods looked like in the 1978 remake?

CC

Detailed Casting Products17 Nov 2007 11:21 p.m. PST

There could be, but remember that this movie was just a COPY of the original.wink There is nothing better than the original. Muahahaha.

It looks as if there have been three remakes of the "original" 1956 film, more or less. Besides the 1978 version, there is Body Snatchers and The Invasion (with Nicole Kidman, which I've not seen).

Look here for further info. I particularly liked the parody section. Episodes of Dick Van Dyke, Barney Miller and Seinfeld are listed as well. wink

Here is a 1956 version-

Let's see what I can do about this lack of pods . . .

CC

Cacique Caribe09 Dec 2007 2:06 a.m. PST

Ok. I may have some photos in the next few days.

Fingers crossed.

Just don't go to sleep near them. You'll wake up, only to find that you are an alien and worse than that, you'll be only just over an inch tall…wink

I wonder if Master Matakishi had "Body Snatchers" pods in mind when he wrote this . . .

"Pod people are like zombies and attack in close combat for 1D6, they are killed like humans, Open- 6. Cover- 9, Buildings- 12
They may combine into groups of any size.
Pod People may not be targeted by a group from the faction they resemble until they have attacked that particular group.
Pod People may take bodies to Tryffids to make more pod people. This is not automatic, the bodies need to be carried. Placing a Tryffid group next to the carrying group will, of course, speed this up.
Use the original casualties for Pod People and add a ‘pod' marker to the group, a piece of plastic vegetation works well as a marker, or lichen if you prefer."

How would you game these?

And which version of the pod people would you have in the game?

DCP,

I went home for a week and am back in Arkansas now.

However, I brought the almost-finished "body snatcher" pods. Hope to get them done in the next few days. When finished, they'll ge going your way.

Fingers crossed.

However, I'm REALLY curious as to how one would go about gaming a "Body Snatcher" scenario:

Sounds good CC. I'll love seeing them when they arrive. As far as how to game with them, they would work well for RPG use when used with character minis.

Cacique Caribe24 May 2008 12:20 p.m. PST

DCP,

They are ready to go!!!

Send me a PM with you address again. I will have them going your way on Tuesday (May 27).

The pods have arrived!

Can't wait to hear DCP's reaction. Hopefully it is positive.

Well, after a sleepless night (get it?), I cast up the first few uh, copies wink for evaluation purposes. As usual, CC did a great job on the sculpting. I'll be calling these "Xenopods, Type II."

It will be a few weeks before they're available. I have to check a few things over and then place them on the DCP website. I'd like to get some feedback here as well, from the first impressions of others. I already know what my own opinion is. These would work great with several scales I'd think, from 15-30mm figures.

Here is a photo of the first double-set of cast models. For reference, I included some 30mm Mongoose figures. The pods are just under an inch in length. I wanted to get some samples painted up, as a mono-color resin cast just will not show the relief in a photo unless the lighting is perfect.

Think of these as the "Ultimate in green troops" double entendres aplenty (rolling eyes)…

picture

I'm fairly certain a double set (what you see) will be $10 USD plus S&H. Like I mentioned, they won't be available for a few weeks yet.

Detailed Casting Products06 Jun 2008 9:26 p.m. PST

Of course, "what you see" will not come painted. wink

You'll also need to come up with your own scale pitchforks…

Detailed Casting Products24 Jun 2008 8:23 p.m. PST

This is what is known as "Hollywood casting." wink

picture

Well, at least that's a good lead-in for this-

picture

Interestingly enough, both pics are on topic, heh.

As I didn't get a chance to take a photo of the greens, I primed this set to attempt to show the detail. They should make good "pod props."

If I ever run out of storage for these, I have the perfect solution-wink
