I went to pick up some foam-board for some buildings I'm working on today. As usual, I took a tour through the model section while I was there. Right away I noticed that the BMG/Imex army men they usually sell were no longer where they usually were. 'Oh well, they must not have sold well enough' I thought. Then I entered another aisle and was stunned to find a large new selection of similar products along with the stuff I was used to seeing. Most of the 54mm stuff was the usual low quality I expect, though they did take the time to paint it. But the two things that really caught my eye were the Billy's or Bobby's 1/72 bagged sets, and the fact they're carrying Papo now. The 1/72 scale stuff was really good, and cheap too. They were made out of hard plastic and had a lot of extras, such as tepees and skin curing racks in the plains indian sets, and wigwams and boats in the Lewis and Clark one. The Alamo set had two sprues of defenders, two of Mexicans, and two of cannon for around fifteen bucks. There was a lot more but I really just glanced through as I already have too many things going on. |

Probably stocking up for Christmas. |

I'll have to make a stop in this weekend. I was thinking about doing it anyway. Thanks for the heads up. |

The 1/72 bobby's ww2 Germans looked surprisingly nice. Definitely a target for a 40% off coupon. |

Cool
just checked my email and there is a 40% off this week actually. |

I saw those when I visited my local Hobby Lobby yesterday. I also noticed the addition of a small stock of 1/100 Tamiya plastic aircraft models. As a former employee, I can tell y'all that these items should be a part of their regular stock. |

I think it depends on the Hobby Lobby. Mine doesn't have much at all in the way of 1/72, but it has bag after bag of the old BMX stuff. |

Sigh, no Hobby Lobby outlets near here

Agree – depends on the Hobby Lobby. The store near is completely useless for any model items and only barely restocks their art supplies if you can believe it. |

Lucked out there I guess, or it could be that all the new Michel's stores are kicking their butts

I've been grabbing the 1/72 Imex sets the week before last, I printed up a bunch of the 40% coupons and just stopped in once or twice a day. I noticed that these "Billy Boy" Imex brand sets were getting restocked (since I was taking them all) but as for models they said they just get what the warehouse sends them with no rhyme or reason. |

I noticed those (1/72 and Papo)last week and was quite surprised. |

For those that are interested, the sets are WWII, Korea, Revolutionary War. Alamo, Civil War, Lewis and Clark, Pilgrims and Eastern Indians, Plains Indians, and Western Settlers. The Western Settlers and Plains Indian sets contain just that, though the Conestoga wagon and Teepees respectively are welcome additions, particularly the wagon as I've never seen one in this scale before. The other sets contain two sprues from each of two different 'sides', except for the Alamo set which is as previously described. There are also some cut-out buildings and stuff on the back of the package. As Clonecommander stated, These are Imex products under the name Billy V Model Co., and the Imex web-site's address is listed on the back of the package. However, a thorough perusal of their website failed to turn up any mention of them. If anyone knows where to find them online please post. I want to see if there are more sets and at least a few people are interested in them but have no HL access. |

I believe you can buy them from michtoy.com You have to click on the plastic soldiers link and then on the 1/72 scale link, which will take you to an alphabetical listing of manufacturers. |

54mm or 1/32 scale figures are cool too. I built two DBA armies from the current availables at Hobby Lobby. |

I just got the WW2 Germans and Americans yesterday. They came in the same package for 9.99 but they were 25% off. They're not bad at all, even get two figures kneeling and aiming panzerfausts. I don't see many panzerfausts out there in this scale. |
John Leahy | 18 Nov 2007 7:26 p.m. PST |
Hmmmm
.I got mine at $9.99 USD and then 25% off of that price. I used a 40% off coupon to buy some model pirate ships for 1/72 use. That made tham around 8-9 bucks each. Thanks, John |

Interesting Lions Den, but two small quibbles: Vikings never, ever had horns on their helmets. Personal pet peeve. Why didn't you paint them? The flags are nice, but those factory paint jobs are horrible! |
