As I am halfway to a 28mm SCW collection I was thinking of doing some platoon sized games. I am good for rules (we will use TW&T) but I am looking for a good source of scenarios. Any ideas? In particular I am interesed in actions involving the Abraham Lincoln brigade (especially the Mac-Paps) or troops in civilian clothing (as we have about a platoon of partisans in the club already). |

The book, Commissars and Comrades, covers the Abraham Lincoln battalion, as well as their fraternal battalions like the Mac-Paps, as they operated as a combined International Brigade. Not a scenario book, but the actions are detailed, Jarama, the Ebro crossing
. right until they were sent home. Chalfant |

Hmmm
well, not to mislead, it does not cover too much of individual "here and there"
though you read about specific HMG teams, or small bands of men moving up gullies, and actions of tanks. Chalfant |

You can always do meeting engagements and what I usually do is one or two squads defending an outpost on a hill. Taking small bridges or raids on villages would work. Another good one is a plt guarding a work detail fixing a rail road crossing and being attacked by another plt. |

Try Alvah Bessie's "Spanish Civil War Notebook", he served with the Lincolns and the book is a nice little concise outline of his actions with. Even shows how they were trained to deploy and squad composition. Also his book "Men in Battle" is loaded with a lot of scenario ideas, night raids, etc. Doc |

A bridge scenario, like in For Whom the Bells Toll, would be fun to do, if only for the huge gully underneath. |

Milton wolffs (last commander of the Lincolns) "Another hill" is a good read. lots of good stuff on the Lincoln Batn. |

Not the Lincolns, but the trench raid in George Orwell's "Homage to Catalonia" would make a good game. The POUM militia trying to capture a Nationalist machinegun. |

Jakar's suggestion on the "For Whom the Bell Tolls" scenario would make an awsome game. All you need is: Guerillas: 1 assault group to take out the Nationalist outpost in the Saw Mill 1 demo team to set the charges on the bridge 1 ambush group to block the Nationalist tank column. Nationalist: oupost guard-about 3-5 men with one guy on the bridge tank column-maybe a platoon some cavalry to enter late in the game |

I would look at WW2 scenarios and try to fit your available forces into the same ratio of attackers to defenders using the scenario map. I've always felt that at this level it's more about an interesting situation than it is the exact OB laid out in a scenario. |
