I figured I should ask the gamers of Ancients . . . What company(ies) make well proportioned, open-handed ancient Egyptians that are 28-30mm in height? Preferably in poses where they could hold a spear two-handed. Thanks. CC |

"well proportioned" Let me re-define that. Looking for muscular, well-fed types, not thin figures. (Man, that sounds awful, like a personal ad) CC |

Heck, I'd be happy with figures holding spears two-handed. CC |

Castaway Arts has Old Kingdom Egyptians, which fit your needs. However, they are not Conan-esque in build, but wiry dudes. The catalog has photos, so judge for yourself. You can also pick up an Ark of the covenant with Hun crew while you are ati it. you know you want one. CA is one of those classy Aussie companies that can do no wrong in my book. I get orders within a week. |

Essex Miniatures might be what you are after. AEG10 has possibilities depending on what his "shield hand" is doing. link |

If you want lots, literally hordes, Foundry has a very nice range, but with weapons cast on. However, they are one of their best ranges, and if you buy a Horde at Christmas, actually reasonably priced! BTD are large and beefy, but again have cast on weapons. (I keep wantig to get a horde of Nubians for a "Lost City of Zimbabwe", since their Nubian nobles are stunning.) |

CC There is a range of 25mm Gladiator Miniatures Egyptians that have open hands. I haven't put them up on the shop yet, but can take a look if you are interested and send you a photo of any which might be suitable. email me or send a PM thanks Mike |

Thanks. Right after the last two posts suggesting BTD, I went ahead and made an order. I know they are on the big side, but that is precisely what I need. Thanks again. CC |

From what can be determined about Egyptian infantry from pictorial sources, a pose employing a spear two-handed would be at best unusual. The spear was somewhat an ancillary weapon, with the real work being done mainly with a mace, khopesh, or axe. Slinging a shield over the back to use a spear that way? Never seen it depicted. And what would be the point? Egytians didn't have to fend off cavalry. But BTD tends to include these "unusual" poses in their ancients packs. Well done for picking up on that, although I don't understand why anyone would want them. I as going to suggest 1st Corps' Ptolemaic phalangites in native armor, but you seem happy with your solution. Allen |

Allen, I have a hunch he is not out to reenact Kadesh. Just a feeling. |
