TAG – The Assault Group (28mm)

Hello.

One of the most request questions that i am as where about to our new TYW miniatures fit in with all the other current manufactures. It a very difficult one to answer, scale differences in all major makes a often very slight and subject to a great deal of personal preference.
In addition, although i have seen most of the current minis close-up, i seldom get to compare them, one next to the others.
Thankfully my job has be made considerably easier by one of our customers supplying this
picture
It show our minis next to those of other manufacturers who make similar models.
The relative heights give in Millimeters, measured from heal to eye are as follows.
TAG – 25.5mm
Bicorne – 27mm
Renegade – 28mm
Redoubt – 28mm
Perry – 26mm
Foundry – 24mm
Old Glory – 25mm

I hope that this is of interest, and my thanks go to Cliff Mc Cleod for his help.

Cheers pete

Pete and Cliff,

Although I don't wargame in this period in this scale (do it in 15mm), comparisons such as this are very helpful to all gamers. Thanks for the picture.

I agree. This is very valuable. Thanks.

Appreciate the comparison shot. It sustains my prejudice against Ren,Bic, and Red. The other guys are good to go.

Many thanks Pete. It is just this sort of thing that really helps when selecting a range. Expect an order in the coming weeks.

I think I am correct here – you should mention that your figures are eing done by Nick Collier who did the Renegade and Bicorne ones.

I have Perry, Foundry and TAG figures. Size difference isn't really noticeable in the men, but it is in the horses: TAG horses seem a slight dimension larger all round. However, they are exquisite figures.

any picture comparition for horses and artillery ?
the one for infantery is great :)

Yes, this is great.

I so need some good rules for this period.

Yep, very useful comparison. Just one word of caution : the Foundry musketeer depicted here is a tad smaller than other figures in the same range. The ECW sculpts were done by the Perry twins over a period of six of seven years and their proportions did fluctuate over time : the latter castings (released around 1990/1992)were smaller and slightly slimmer than some of their predecessors. The figure depicted here falls somewhat in the middle.

very usefull, and it looks as if the TAG figures fall in down the middle so we get the best of all worlds.

Thanks,

I'll be mixing TAG in with my Perry's.

Looks like TAG are fine to mix with Perry IMHO. Great if you have Perry as you can now enjoy Nick Colliers work in a comparible scale.

Is this the begining of negative scale creep?

Even within the Perry's own ECW range the sizes fluctuate. eg the Forlorn Hope pack – the advancing figures are to a clearly different scale to those crouching. I was very surprised by this as it is very marked.

Thank you for the positive responses, i will go away and ask if the same could be done for the Cavalry minis, it would indeed be very useful.

I think is is fair to say that Nick Collier (the sculptor on this range) who also did the Bicorne and Renegade minis, has made a deliberate effort to reign in the "scale-creep". He and I think that it is the way to go, bringing us back the scale of the old Foundry/new Perry minis.

I'm slightly sceptical about the height of that Foundry fig. I have my TAG and Foundry happily mixed and I suspect that it is a slightly-shorter-than-most-Foundry-mini.

Capatian29 Oct 2007 7:04 p.m. PST

I have foundry and based on the picture above I would mix in TAG. I'd love to see the horse sizes, that bothers me more than variation in people sizes.
Thanks for the post

I found this very useful-I'm going TAG Perry, maybe a few Bicornes as they're nice figs.
Is there a Horse picy out there somewhere?
Cheers folks.
