Gang,
Anyone know who sells a "Bag o' Shields" for Greek hoplites? A friend's working on a custom project and that's what he asked me about. I was thinking Old Glory and Gripping Beast?

I believe some people swear by First Corps shields.

Old Glory shields can be ordered separately by calling the factory. They have a nicely-detailed, smallish hoplon that is compatible with the old Foundry Persian and Peloponnesian Wars range.

For a slightly large hoplon, 1st Corps' is excellent. I use it to amend large 28mm Greeks which come provided with strangely-proportioned shields.

Needless to say, I also have a large collection of strangely-proportioned shields, if your friend isn't too pick!

I assume you mean 25/28mm since you listed Gripping Beast.

In no particular order

WP9 Greek Hoplite Shields Newline Design

Shields – New Hoplons Gripping Beast
Shields – Round Large Gripping Beast
Shields – Round Small Gripping Beast

I am pretty sure if you contact Essex, Foundry, and Old Glory Directly they can do a shield packs for a price. I have several from the day Foundry were sold individually.

I forgot about 1st Corps they are not listed but once again I think if you contact them directly you might be in luck. I also know Crusader does shield seperate but I do NOT think they have a Greek line yet.

Here's a very similar thread, which also mentions Vendel:

And here is what Amazon / QT shields look like on Foundry figures:

Note that you can get still get shield packs from The Foundry, but you would need to request them by e-mail or by telephone.

I like the bigger shields too.. sometimes I'm too lazy.
I agree 1st Corps are best for large 28's.
Hey that JT-Y chap can paint. I like his spear tricks. I don't have the time anymore, but I'm happy somebody else does.
Plus adding greaves.. something that has put me off my Foundry phalanx too long!

That is lovely painting. And the greaves are terrific… I wonder how long it would take to do them? Might try adding a few.

Hasslefree Miniatures have a pack of 5 28mm scale Hoplite shields available for 1 British pound. The link shows the shield as modelled by the 28mm Artemis figure. I should note that the Artemis figure does not wear clothes, just in case there are any folks who don't wish to view such a figure. By the way, the 40mm Hasslefree Artemis figure, from an artistic point of view, is one of the nicest sculpts I have seen.

Pity that for such an expensive bit, the fittings weren't completely modelled. The porpax is passable, but the antilabe is absent.
