Hey guys I wanted to share an idea I had for some cheap sci-fi terrain. I was at Wal-Mart last night and noticed some square bowls and dishes for $.75 USD each. Throw in a sheet of "granny grate" for $.33 USD and you have four Silos or four neo-asian buildings for under $10. USD I plan to paint these this weekend. Check out the photo gallery below.

Another idea.

Borrow the kids sandbox (well…anyone's sandbox). Wet the sand a bit and push tupperware into it. Remove said tupperware and fill with plaster of some sort.

Let try.

Remove, brush off stand…drybrush.

Instant city in the making.

It'll be heavy but I think most of us could use the exercise. :)

Nice find

One cool feature I forgot to mention is that they nest together quite nicely, so you don't have to glue them together. That makes them a versitle too.

Cap Ap,

Very nice! What are you going to use for doors?

Those would also make nice supports for highways.

These are very nice! Nothing better than cheap scenery that we can all buy. Nice find.

@Void Trekker – whatever… ; )

@CC – Uh… doors? Right, doors. I suppose plasticard would work. I didn't realy think about doors but I suppose that would help wouldn't it? ; )

Question: Has anyone tried using upside-down plastic parts bins as SF buildings?

Excellent quick buildings. For doors you probably want something flat so the buildings can still nest together for storage. Also something that doesn't look wrong when you invert for the T-shape.

Maybe drawn / printed on white cardstock (possibly glued onto sheet styrene for durability) and stuck on with poster putty, double-sided tape or magnets?

Sorry CC, I haven't tried those. The look a little thin to me, but it is hard to tell from the pic.

As for doors, I think I will just leave them off and use the structures as generic Bleeped text-R-They structures. Plant them around the table and let the players try to guess. ; )
