Ok. I am planning to give my nephew one of each of the following Copplestone Castings adventurers (a long-overdue present): picture picture picture He is REALLY into the Mummy films with Brendan Frasier & Rachel Weisz: themummy.com link I know that he'll be able to use about a dozen from the packs shown above. However . . . What MUMMIES are compatible with those Copplestone figures. I looked at the ones from Reaper/Warlord and, honestly, they are absolutely HUGE. QUESTION But, do the Reaper/Warlord mummies fit with the Copplestone figures in those packs, or do you suggest other options? Thanks. CC |

Yes – I think the reaper mummies fit in well. There are two sets too, there is an army builder pack in the Dark heaven line as well as the warlord mummies. The DHL mummies are a little bit smaller. They also strike me as doing the monster mash. :) |

Am I the only one unable to get the images on the Reaper site to pull up? link CC |

Some of them seem unavailable - This is the pack I am talking about - link |

"They also strike me as doing the monster mash. :)" Thanks! I see what you mean. I think that pack might just work, as the mummies in the films were not exactly normal in their movements and gestures. That would give me 4 to start with. Any other recommendations (that would fit well with the Copplestone figures mentioned above)? CC |

Go for the Croc games ones. They are a little bit smaller than the reaper ones and if you get them before the price increase they might be slightly cheaper as well. Plus you can get them with or without weapons. |

Also, any suggestions for an "Imhotep" figure (bald and robed, as in the movie)? link link CC PS. I know he's looking for the early 20th century setting, but Rachel looks HOT in this trailer (even if it's a body double): link link |

The War Gods mummies pointed out by Pictors look best. They also make Anubis warriors. Eureka also makes Anubis Warriors. I have these thanks to Brigade Games. They are very nice figures. IIRC, Eureka also makes some other Egyptian themed miniatures. |

Having done this project for my kids in the past year or so: Having looked at whats available, the best Mummies are the Westwind ones – they do a pack of mummy priests, GHM0002 – Mummy Servant Priests £5.00, also arab diggers GHM0004 – Diggers £5.00. Their adventurer figures GHM0003 – High Priest and Evil Cultists £5.00. are a little too cartoony for my tastes so I used the Copplestone ones as you are doing, plus the Artizan Thrilling Tales arabs in fez with Thompsons and pistols. PLP002 Rashid £2.00 GBP PLP003 Osman £2.00 GBP PLP004 Yusuf £2.00 GBP PLP001 Kentucky Davies £2.00 GBP (If you want Indiana Jones in there too : ) ) Brigade games does an excellent "Evie the archaoligist figure" too. Evy the Archaeologist Code:BG-ADV06 Price:$2.50 Also their Sons of the Desert range Arabs are perfect for Mummy scenarios. They also have an archaeologist and diggers pack too, with an Egyptian "Curator" in fez thats just excellent.
Wargods stuff is seriously small when compared to Copplestone – so dont think you will be getting anything like the Anubis warriors from the film. The ones I bought were discarded immediately from the project as were their mummies. Just too weedy. A couple of the Reaper Mummies work very well as Im-Hotep or similar leaders. 006058a : Mummy (Hands Up) $ 3.99 006058b : Mummy $ 3.99 006059a : Mummy Tomb Guardian (Sword Up) $ 3.99 006059b : Mummy Tomb Guardian $ 3.99 02156 : Mummy of Hakir $ 3.99 02204 : Sethis of Adiri, Mummy $ 3.99 (this one is perfect for Anacksunamun chasing Evy with the dagger) 02484 : Mummy Lord $ 3.99 14081 : Netikerti, Mummy Consort $ 4.49 (Great if you want a more imposing Anacksunamun) The best reaper figures you will want are: 002492a : Scarab Swarm $ 3.39 (You cant do The Mummy without Scarabs!) Also take a look at the Conquest Miniatures horde of Pygmy zombies – perfect for reenacting the second film" link Hope that helps! |

Oh, almost forgot, for the mummy in Human form you will want this figure from Crocodile Games: Priest of Aten, Reliquary Ark and a single 20mm square base. Sculpted By: Chris FitzPatrick Item: WGE-140 Price: $7.95 USD link You get a very nice Ark of the Covenant with it for Indiana Jones games too : ) |

Check Reaper's Warlord line. Nefsokar is Egyptian. A nice pack of mummies. Better than their regular mummies. I don't like the new Blue Moon stuff. Just looks odd. |

I bought the Blue Moon set at H-con. I am quite pleased with it, as the adventurers and various native types fit perfect for my "Emilia Peabody in Egypt" project. Since many feel that this series of books inspired "The Mummy", I think it is worth a look. Here is the best news: Blue Moon will be adding booster packs of villagers and diggers this Fall! Perfection!!! The "Amazing Tales" figs were so picked over by the time I got to Brigade's booth, I never got to see them properly. |

Artslave, How do they compare with the Copplestone packs I listed on the first post? CC |

Emilia Peabody is the central character and narrator of the 25 or so books written by Elizabeth Peters about Egyptian explorers in the early 20th Century. "Peabody" as she is called by her archaeologist husband Emerson manages to entangle herself in at least one major murder mystery per book. The stories involve all the Historic Egyptologists like Carter and Budge, as well has a non-stop parade of scoundrels, thieves, grave robbers and pre-WWI political intrigue. The books are great fun and scream out for a game setting. I think an especially evocative book is "Last Camel Died at Noon" her tribute to H.R. Hagggard. I think the books get to the best part when the children are old enough to join in the adventures. Miss Peters studied Archeology, specializing in Ancient Egypt and so brings a wealth of information to the stories. The Blue Moon set will blend in very nicely with all my Foundry "Darkest Africa" figures. One or two of the castings seem a bit "flat-ish", but will paint up well, I think. The Shambling Mummy figure is quite a bit taller than the others, and even bigger than the one still in the sarcophagus. Maybe there is some strange phenomena that occurs when mummies are re-animated? |
artslave | 05 Aug 2007 12:36 p.m. PST |
And before the spelling police blow a fuse, it should be "Amelia", not what I wrote above. In either case, it is "Peabody", anyway. Rachel Weisz would never pass for Peabody, but Brendon makes a pretty convincing young "Emerson". These characters are not really lifted as-is from the books. Or the plots, either, BTW. |

Thanks Artslave, I will give them a try. |

The recent The Mummy movie was a remake of the classic b&w The Mummy, IIRC. BTW they are filming a Mummy 3. This time they are going to China with Chinese mummies! Back of Beyond anyone? I suggest some nice buildings from Crescent Root: crescent-root.com/index.htm Also, get the Egyptian Hirst Arts kits: hirstarts.com You can get the kits precast from some good retailers. Hirst has the links. Earlier this year, I rode The Mummy ride at Universal Orlando. (I live near the park.) Got some great inspiration waiting in line. The entire waiting area is a tomb dig. People thought I was nuts getting all excited just waiting in line. Also picked up some cool stuff in the gift shop for my mummy games. |

General Montcalm, I recommend that you read the books in order, at least the first few, if you care about such things. Book one is "Crocodile on the Sandbank", and begins with the young, single Amelia on her first visit to Egypt. If you like this, you are off and rolling through the adventures. If you don't, you can save yourself the trouble, as this sets the stage for all the major characters, except the children, that are involved later. It will add to the mysteries and surprise endings, as characters may change sides or at least appear to do so. Peters has an engaging style that keeps the reader sympathetic while slightly annoyed at the same time with Peabody's unconventional detective work. Thanks to a generous TMP member, who sent me many volumes I could not find in my local library, I have read through the first 15 and have enjoyed every one. |

Also if you want a cheaper alternative to the scarab swarm from Reaper and are not bothered about plastic pre-paints, the latest D&D miniatures expansion has a scrab swarm. Here it is: link From the other CC :D |
