If "retro" is "clunky 1970's design," then, yes, they're retro. But heck, they might just be super cheap. But I'll probably save my money until the Cold Navy ships return to the market this fall. P.S. That "hexagonal base" photo seems to show the stand being molded into the ship, with a slotta-base tab on the bottom. Wonder how that approach will go over

Probably not going to be super cheap, their 15mm crew certainly weren't. OTOH, while the "look" is very specific, they're pretty much spot-on for the artwok in the game, and that's obviously the niche they're selling to. If you're not a Battlestations fan, then yeah, they're a little dumpy. I suppose it's an acquired taste. :) |

Oh, and the slotta-base thing, that's been done before by Agents of Gaming and Holistic, both in plastic and metal. Gorilla isn't doing anything new there, I think. |

Suitably cheap looking
a Little "dumpy".. an understatement

[seems to show the stand being molded into the ship] The ships are separate from their stands, the miniatures have a normal mounting hole. |

Not keen on the look, even if it's "by the book". Possibly that's why I'm not a Battlestations fan
The Tentac big ships would not be bad for small(?) bases tho. |

I collect spaceship minis, and these are simply not on the "to buy" list. Harsh, but reality. |

Um, me mum always said "if you can't say anything nice

The game uses uniform cubic sections, reminiscent of a quadrille paper layout. That's the reason for the design of the ships. I've got the game but have never played it. Hundvig is right in that they are targeted at their existing customers of the RPG/battle game. |

FWIW, the fans on the Battlestations Yahoo group seem quite pleased with them. I didn't think much of their earlier 15mm crew figs, and the ships are a bit lackluster, but apparently the target audience is hooked. |

Until now, I though the uniform cubic sections where an abstraction
Anyway, kudos for the BS crew on managing to please their fans at least. |

tnjrp, even though I have yet to play it, last year I wanted to play with the idea to turn their cardstock templates into 3-D cubes. Here are a few of my ideas to do this with using plastic sheeting and a bit lazier by using LEGO bricks as walls. picture picture picture picture |

I like those ships. A couple are dead ringers for some of my 28mm WWG cardstock ships. I can game the starship battles, then skirmmish in the bigger ships! I like it! |

I see not a lot of y'all like the look? I think its that "clunky, guts on the outside", style or something, which i prefer. (although they are not THAT clunky) |
