Are there any true 25mm ranges? |
ArchiducCharles | 15 Jul 2007 10:59 a.m. PST |
Yes, Foundry Napoleonics, the 'early' range (i.e. the Austrian, Bavarian, Prussian, and most pre-1812 French). True 25mm. |

The trouble with scale in this hobby begins with the way it is expressed. What does 25mm mean, anyway? Some figures are closer to 30mm than 25. Many lines claiming to be "25mm" are not compatable with each other. Some of the more honest lines now claim to be 28mm. What used to be called 25mm in the 1970s is now called 20mm. This is generally slightly taller than HO scale. 15mm figures have grown to 18mm. It's all a confusing mess! I propose that the "new" standard be scale, not size. Art Miniaturen has already done this, calling their 20mm figures 1/72-76 scale. I suspect NapoleoN miniatures are the same. The plastics have always done this. It's about time all manufacturers be held to this standard. Foundry is a good line, but from what I can tell, no other miniature manufacturer is compatable. To some extent, the same can be said of Newline figures, who are a "small 20mm" scale. It is a rather pathetic statement on the industry that these many manufacturers cannot get enough of a clue to establish standard scales. 20mm might be the least played scale, but from what I can tell, the manufacturers in 20mm are most compatable to each other, though 15mm are fairly standard. "25mm," or what used to be 25mm and has experienced frightful and varying scale creep, are a mess. Bill |

Ok, I'm lost. Are Foundry figures compatable for size with the plastics? 1/72? Bill |

Sorry, I´m a litte late. Our figures are 1/72, that´s o.k. they are compatibles with Art Miniaturen, Zvezda and late Italeris. The other plastics are smaller. Our miniatures have correct proportion, I mean , they are not "stout" figures, like Foundry´s or Newline. There are some other minis from old ranges of 25mm that are very simmilar in size, some Hinchliffe, I think, but not all the range. On the other hand, we will release all napoleonic range, so
Ebay all of your disolaced little men and by ours ;)! |

- Ok, I'm lost. Are Foundry figures compatable for size with the plastics? 1/72? - No. They have it seems the same height, but Ioannis told me they are about half as wide as Foundry Nap Austrians. |

Ionnas, I just started working off my Nappy bug this month. I decided on using AB and ranges that work with them. Great figs and a great scale. You can actually paint the little guys well as the detail is nice, and you still get a cool mass effect. I would support AB (with assist from Eureka and Fantassin). |
