What are good sources for SCW uniforms?

Peter N C Frost07 Jul 2007 1:35 p.m. PST

José M. Bueno: Uniformes Militares de la Guerra Civil Español.
About 100 uniform plates each depitching up to 3 uniforms. It has a short appendix in english describing all the uniforms.

The Osprey books on the SCW also have good coloured plates

The Bueno book is really the best available. There is also an SCW Yahoo group if you were interested.

It's not easy to find outside of Spain. Over the years, I've been able to pick up most of Bueno's uniform books at Foyle's when visiting London. But more than likely, one will need to seek this through a Spanish bookseller or hobby shop.

Also it may be worth knowing that he has done two editions of this: one in 1971 and one 1n 1997.

Another thing to watch out for with Bueno, a lot of the plates are parade uniforms. The later paperback is still around, but has a nasty tendency to fall to bits!!

for Carlists try

requetes.com

another good couple of sites are the ay carmela and LaColumna re-enactment group sites

Has anyone ever tried and made a colours chart -in the style of Battlefront's FOW painting guides? Of course, there is a quite comprehensive and useful SCW guide at Balagan website, but the painting guide in it ( link ) is referred to Coat d'Arms paints -not Vallejo.

Thats not a bad idea, I have the vallejo colour charts, I'll have a good look at my reference sources, and see if i can put something together.

Might be worth looking at the Foundry paints too, as they seem to be popular with painters.
