Years ago, when I first started wargaming, 25mm Napoleonics, Ancients, and some WWII micro armor was about the full spectrum of gaming we engaged in. Then, a Napoleonic game wasn't a real game unless it lasted at least ten hours—and maybe into the next three or four weekends. You had a modifier for virtually everything. In some cases you might have to roll for the Emperor's sneeze with all manner of national modifiers to achieve a result. This was high fanatical wargaming at its very best, and I think there is a carryover tradition today, if not in the rules then in some players. No other period seems to attract the histo-gaming fanatic as much as the Napoleonic era, although I think some American Civil War enthusiasts have a rightful claim in this direction also. |

Well Napoleonic gamers are, of course, all experts. It's just that each knows he's more expert than the others! |

When I played in the SYW era I always chose the Prussians as my side. I tried to always proceed like a gentleman of the 18th Century during the many games I particpated in. But when things went wrong (my bad play, awfull dice rolls, really bad decisions by my allies) my attitude tended to modernize a bit! I think that 18th Century gamers as a whole do try to "get into period" during their games more than anyone else, although ACW is another era that also tends to do the same thing! We Americans have a lot of "axes to grind" still over that one!! |

It was the Napoleonic Discussion board that turned me off from Napoleonic's. I have read a lot of Napoleonic History and have purchase some K&C 54mm Voltiguers but as a previous poster said it was like the movie the 'the Duelist'. I much now perfer the 18th Century and the Medieval Period. |
