Apparently, Foundry has just released a new remix of their Crimean War range (with units of 8, shock!). Apparently, if you order 3 of one blister, the price will be $42 USD (as opposed to $54). I don't know if shops will get this option, but this looks like hope (like Foundry is listening).
Just one question, uniform-wise. Are the French Crimean uniforms of the same cut as during the Franco-Prussian War? It's hard to tell the differences. Same goes for Russians for the Russo-Turkish war. However, I do know that Turkish uniforms had followed French Imperial cut during RTW. |

As far as I recall, the French uniforms are roughly the same, although I know the coat was definitely doublebreasted in 1870. I think it was singlebreasted in the Crimea and only after the Maximillian Expedition was it redesigned. A minor change, and certainly not enough to bar my 1870 French from any Crimean actions! Officially the Crimean troops were in shakos, but in reality they wore kepis. The Russian uniform unfortunately changed quite a bit between 1854 and 1877. There is no way - even in 6mm - that it won't be noticeable. My opinion anyway. By 1877, the forage cap changed to a kepi, the blanketroll was worn across the torso and the pickelhaube was long gone by then. According to what I've read ("Russo-Turkish War", Osprey; "Uniforms of the World", Knotel & Knotel) the Turks' uniforms did not resemble French Imperial uniforms at all. They had fezzes and piped vests. Perhaps you are thinking of the French Turco and Zouave colonial troops? |

I got the Turk info mainly from the same Osprey. Officially, the Turks wore uniforms of the same cut, save the kepis were replaced by Fezzes for soldiers (but not officers). In reality, most prefered traditional dress. Officially, the Russians had kepis, but from that Osprey, it seemed that they hardly bothered with them; and by the time of the Boxer Rebellion had soft caps that had striking similarity to the Crimean-era soft caps (I think, else totally new design). |

Foundry now seem to have found the missing moulds and have re-released the entire range. Inevitably the packs have been "re-organised" to accord with current pricing policy: in one deal £60 buys you just 6 cannon and 6 cavalry. Or you can get the British "Artillery and High Command" collection which gets you 4 mounted, 2 foot and 4 guns. I'd love to get into this period but can't even begin to justify paying these prices. |

Foundry have also released the Franco-Prussian War Range again, so no need to check if uniforms are compatible! |
