My son and I are planning to run a Star Wars space fleet battle at an upcoming convention (Historicon). He started by running the WOTC rules with some of the obvious modifications (ranges for one thing) at a local convention, but he was not satisfied with the rules. He wanted to come to Historicon and put on a Star Wars fleet battle. So I have been working to adapt a new rule system to the WOTC Star Wars ship models. First I came up with a G.O.B.S. version. Which by the way is an excellent alternative space fleet battle, and it does work well with the movie version space battles- we played it, we liked it, but we wanted to try one that had a little more detailed damage allocation. I have included the SSD's we developed for G.O.B.S. on the site for anyone interested. We then began adapting a Full Thrust version for convention. It is not a pure version of Full Thrust, but I would be interested in any constructive input. Here is the link: webpages.charter.net/dervel I have uploaded two space gaming related PDF files. One called Full Thrust Star Wars, and the other is Star Wars Miniatures GOBS. Ultimately we decided to go with the Full Thrust Version. I am still working on a visual explanation of the rules specific to our convention game. So the written rules are a work in progress. Also, we are working on the SSD's for the medium sized ships like the Rebel Assault Frigates and Imperial Dreadnoughts. I look forward to any additional ideas! |

There are some really nice Star Wars Full Thrust ship templates in the photos section of the Star Wars Miniatures Battles yahoo group. There are about 30 of them. They are really high quality, you should check them out. They cover most of the WoTC ships. Here is a direct link to the photo's in particular. They are in a folder called wordwildwebb2 if you need to join first. link |

They are now posted in PDF format like I intended. OOPS! I forgot Microsoft decided to "fix" my default print method during a recent update. I need to change it back! I believe they will work in PDF for everyone. Thanks for the links I will check them out. |

Oh, and Drake. I have been to your sight, and I liked it. I also got a lot of information from the Star Ranger, and most of it from the "unofficial full thrust site". |

Dervel, Thanks for posting the G.O.B.S.! version as well. I'm very impressed. Would you mind if I included a link to this file from the web site? --- Howard Shirley, Creator of Generic Outlandishly Big Spacefleets! |

Howard, No problem you are more than welcome to link it or use it. Thanks for coming up with G.O.B.S. and offering it for gaming. It really is fun, and I really like some of the concepts. Especially the movement sequencing, hit, and damage as it relates to ship size. Also, I do like the idea that faster you are going the harder you are to hit. The only problem now is my son keeps quoting the little remarks from you rules "dang sparky
." We put a lot of time into "tweaking" it to our tastes (i.e. the weapon names we changed to match the background). Adjusting for special characters and Aces. As you can see I had thought to print out the SSD's and put them on peg boards, take a look at the full thrust one I posted and you will get the idea. For either set of rules I wanted the players (specifically at conventions) to walk up and play. Everything they need is on the SSD. Dervel |

Take care to submit your game to the Convention director early. I was relegated to Sunday morning for a large StarWars game I and my sons are running. Jim |

Derval, Hope you haven't stopped watching this thread. ;->= Would you take a look at the conversion-to-Full-Thrust file? Some of the pages have images right to the edge, my printer doesn't print right to the edge, and I've no way to correct that I can figure out. I've not been able to get a lot of folks to stay interested in the current WOTC rules, but FT might do the trick! Thanks! |

Beast, sorry was gone for awhile, but back now. Do you have PowerPoint? If you do I can upload that version. Then you can modify the pictures if you like? We print them at 50% scale printing to fit on the pegboards. Also, I am uploading a new version soon. More rules finished and some pictures. |

That GOBS looks really cool. I got the rules when my starship supplier recommended 'em. For Star Trek, A Sky Full of Ships Star Trek version seems the best, but for star Wars, GOBS sounds detailed and perfect for it. |

We played it quite a bit before we switched to full thrust. In the end we only switched because it was closer to the game play we were looking for. By all means try the G.O.B.S. version it is fast and fun. It fit's Star Wars very well, and works good for kids. You can really get a feel for --- "concentrate all fire on the Star Destroyer". Also, kids like it because ships keep fighting right up until they go boom. One thing we added to the sheet (not on the published version) was a change on shields. We put in a level meter that you could mark with pegs. The reason being that it was confusing to remember what the shield level was for a ship if multiple enemies attacked it. It could also be handled with Dice, but we were using those to mark movement. Actually it would not have been a problem except that we end up with a lot of fighters on the board! If you have too many fighters then you end up with Dice everywhere. By the way here is the link to G.O.B.S.
