what do you get in the invasion earth game set by black tree design |
Captain Apathy | 15 May 2007 11:38 a.m. PST |
A clunky set of rules, cardboard terrain and templates, a handful of UNIT Troops and a handful of Daleks. According to Boardgamegeek.com
A miniatures game set in the "Doctor Who" universe, recreating various scenarios in a Dalek invasion of Earth – also includes rules for a campaign game. General miniature mechanics for movment, firing arc, line of sight, cover, etc., with templates for various characters from the TV show plus generic UNIT soldiers and Daleks, and specialized rules for equipment particular to these characters. Box contains a 35 page rulebook; six sheets of firing-blast-measuring templates, counters, and cardboard buildings to be assembled; one blister box of UNIT soldiers and one of Daleks; and two dice. |

"A clunky set of rules
" I bought 2 boxes, simply to get the miniatures. (I like the UNIT models, but didn't want to pay £2.50 GBP simply for a human figure, the Daleks at that price I can live with.) The game is weak in my opinion though, VERY old school. PLUS the box only includes UNIT, Daleks & the Doctor and companion model rules. On the plus side the Yahoo Invasion Earth group has more stuff, or
my humble free PDF rules (shameless plug!) drwhominiatures.co.uk Graeme |

Graeme, There is a lot of profiles and stuff on this site. Your rules look rather nice so I will try them too. doctorwhoinvasionearth.com |

One interesting notion in the Invasion Earth rules is that the Doctor and his companions, who are generally non-combatants, spend the game combing the battlefield for equipment that can help the Doctor create a weapon to use agains the Daleks. In that sense, play is very much like the TV show where Unit simply buys time by fighting the enemy until the Doctor can save the day. The rules are tailored specifically for Daleks and Unit, but as said earlier here, there are numerous other profiles on the Yahoo group. Check out the price of figs and you'll probably find the box set worth it just for the miniatures. Graeme's rules, listed and linked to above, are a great set of free rules that also capture the Doctor Who feel rather well. They can be used for generic sci-fi as well. I played in a boarding action game using Star Wars minis and a World Works paper spaceship for terrain. We had 7 players forming 4 factions, about 25 total miniatures, (all first time players and some were kids)and the game went very smoothly. Highly recommended. |

My set arrived today, rules, playsheet, 6 card ruins, 4 Daleks and 6 UNIT figures. That is £25.00 GBP worth of figures alone. I paid just over £10.00 GBP for the whole set! What a bargain, so buy it! |
