Well taking a brief toe touch into minature gaming again, the wife has been interested in playing some Boardgames. We broke out the Warhammer Quest, and to my great surprise, she LOVED it. So ive been tracking down non-GW monsters for it, as Im not a big GW fan. One thing I have been looking for is a good Gelatenous cube. I wanted something large, as the Warhammer Quest tiles are 30cm, and you dont want a to scale 5" by 5" cube. You want em big. I found instruction on how to cast them from Sean Reanolds on his site, but dont really want to get into casting. I then came across an Ebay seller, who is selling fake Ice Cubes, and lo and behold (er) she had a LARGE size one, 2" square. Search for ACRYLIC ICE on Ebay and look for the 2" one.

Too bad this isnt boardgame geek, I could get some geekgold off of it! :) Now it turns out the cube I got is not exactly a cube, its more of a slight rectangle. One side is 2" and one side is 2 and 1/2. So you could fit it on either size of base. Mine is getting a yellow / green wash here in a bit. |

What about using the future staining method to change it's colour? Link: link Scroll down to the section where he is tinting aircraft canopies. A quote: "f you want to create your own shades of transparent colors, food coloring can be mixed with Future for the desired effect. Tamiya clear colors work well as toners also. If you mess up, you haven't invested as much money as you would combining clear paints. For those gold tinted canopies on contemporary jet fighters try adding a few drops of Tamiya acrylic gold to a couple teaspoons of Future. " Looks like you could have all sorts of coloured gelatinous cubes. |

For a tint get the clear green and clear yellow Gunze Sangyo (sic) paints. Mix until you get the desired lime shooter green and apply. Great find. I think I'll need to see if Bed Bath and Beyond or the like has those. Wyatt |

I'm going to drill out or cut space inside to use as personal force fields for 5150. |

That is REALLY cool. Would have loved to have had that back in my RPG days. |

I'm going to drill out or cut space inside to use as personal force fields for 5150. Doing so will probably turn the drilling point very foggy and not transparent (like etched glass). Future or another clear varnish will probably help clear that up a bit. Let us know how it goes. |

Great ideal. Needs some gold coins and a sword or axe floating in it though. |

Maybe you could make a mold from it and cast a new one with some "bits of treasure and monster remains" suspended inside it. (Assuming you found a good tranparent medium). |

When I was at camp, way back before the earth's crust began to cool, I remember sealing a dead frog or dragonfly in clear resin. That would surely work for a cube, with a bit of loot, bones and the odd rusty sword inside. Cheers, --- Wheldrake |

I don't think you need to get one to make a mold from. They sell whole bags of this fake ice stuff at most craft stores if you really want it. I would go the make it myself route though. |
