Thanks to printable 20% off coupons at Borders and "Buy one, get second 50% off" sales, I have just finished 1-5 of the Dresden files books, and will probably get 6 and 7 over the weekend. 8 is in hardback, so it can wait. My only problem with the series is the "Dragon Ball Z Syndrome". When you just put a stop to a nasty plan to end the world, how do you top that in the next book? Luckily, I like the characters, so it helps to get past the more preposterous plot meanderings. Geez, poor Harry Dresden should check himself into a rest home for a few weeks. He sure gets beat up a lot! |

"When you just put a stop to a nasty plan to end the world, how do you top that in the next book?" Badder dudes, nastier plan. Repeat as necessary. Allen |

Why does every book have to have a plan to destroy the world? Why not a plan to gain control over say, South Carolina, or enslave all of the citizens of Limpopo or something? Do all the bad guys want to destroy the world? Who'd be left to antagonize, control, manipulate, etc.??? |

I have a very strong feeling that Jim Butcher would fit in well around here. Dresden plays D&D with werewolves, real werewolves. He is familiar with the Evil Overlord. I have a strong feeling he could look at a D20 and not ask "What the heck is THAT?" |

Dresden quotes Tolkien, he tells bad jokes and has a prized original Star Wars poster in his apartment He's a geek wizard in his own way |

Just started reading the books. So far, so good. I kinda like the TV show too. I like the hockey stick staff. |

Read the books, don't like the TV series. All the characters are "off" |

Dresden quotes Tolkien, quotes Monty Python, quotes Aliens, quotes Star Wars. He's a geek. A geek with fireballs. :) |

Read #8 – quite good. Started my Dad on them now. Also just finished the first book of his other fantasy series – very different in style, but also very enjoyable. |

By orcs and goblins are cooler. But I'm not selling them. |

I semi-defeated the Bug, there. The above post was on another thread – but it was in fact ME. So there, bug. |

8 is in hardback, so it can wait. According to Amazon, book 8 is in paperback and book 9 was released on 4/3/07 in hardback. Is the codex Aleara series by Butcher any good? |

I have read the first one, and liked it a lot. Very different in style, though. |

If, ny 8, you mean Proven guilty it is in paperback. I was late leaving for work today because I had to finish it. The world saving kind of continues as a backdrop more than a constant theme. Slightly more personal issues do come up now and again |

Have any of you read the just-released 'White Night'? I'd like to get some feedback from trusted minds on Harry's latest adventure. |
