I got this bit of sad news in my mailbox today. The Lost Squadron Museum in Middlesboro, Kentucky is closing. Looks like the family who owner Glacier Girl (a P-38F) has sold her to a company in Texas. The museum sat on the Middleboro airport, and was a treasure trove of P-38 memorabilia. I am fortunate to have made the trip a year ago February as part of a hiking trip to Cumberland Gap. I thought I would spend 30 minutues there, after all, it's one plane, right? I spent two hours talking to one of the museum staffm and getting to know the Glacier Girl stoty. I am so glad I bought the DVD showing her recovery and later flight. A sad, sad day.

I had been there twice, once during the rebuild and once when she was finished. The museum was only an hour and a half from my father-in-law's house and was a nice little little road trip while visiting. The museum will be missed as will the friendly staff that worked there. :(
