I too will attempt to print a TMP name tag. And this time I know there is an overhead bar where people hide!

To be fair on Supercilius though, the smily/laughing face at the end of his post tells me it was a jesting post. I don't think it was meant in a petty way.

"because you and Christot are such insulting smartarse's I now definately won't be going this year "

Would you consider me a smartarse if I pointed out the errant apostrophe in that line? :-)

And this time I know there is an overhead bar where people hide!

You can't hide that many gamers in a bar! We stick out like well a bunch of gamers in a bar.
The only time we could blend in is if there happened to be a beer festival going on at the same time :)

What bar? Where? Google Earth showed me a place called The Fox west of the ExCel main building. Is there one overhead too?

I'm runninng "G:M152 The Battle of Dwarf Mine", a huge fantasy game.

If any TMPers would like to play, or just say hello, I'll be the loon in the green shirt near the large red bat. :-)

As you go in through the main doors, there is a set of steps a little further along from the entrance to Salute. They lead up to an overhead bar. Last year I arranged to meet some other TMPers in the bar at Salute. Like a fool, I was hanging around the small stands by the doors that sell food and beer, hence me not finding anyone :(

I know better now.

Thomas Nissvik15 Mar 2007 5:28 a.m. PST

And some folks said to meet them at The Fox. I sense a cunning plan to get rid of me. ;-)

Coming from New York City, the Jubilee Line and DLR will only be the last leg of my journey. It wasn't that bad getting to ExCel last year, the extra space at the venue compensated for the longer trip from my hotel.
I'll try to remember my TMP badge this year, but at least three people who have already posted on this thread will recognize me without it.
beerintheevening.com doesn't have anything good about The Fox. It probably stays in business because it has a captive audience.

RichardHolling15 Mar 2007 7:46 a.m. PST

I'll be in the local travel lodge friday night.

Matakishi15 Mar 2007 9:32 a.m. PST

beerintheevening.com is 100% correct.
The company on the day is the thing :)

Rik Pease16 Mar 2007 1:23 a.m. PST

I'll be there to meet peeps from the Forum of Doom, buy loads of tin, and introduce my teenage son and his mate to the wider world of gaming that exists outside the borders of the Evil Empire :)

Not been to Salute at ExCel yet, so it's going to be interesting..

TuffSkull16 Mar 2007 2:15 a.m. PST

Thanks for reminding me about the TMP name badges – I'll print one off today & put it with my DRM demo stuff!

Based on the fact I'll probably be leaning over a gaming table all day on the DRM stand, I'll be the one wearing the TMP badge on my back ;o)

Cheers,

Do you go to any meetings like Salute?

I live in WEst London myself – its a bit of a journey but was worth visiting the new site for Salute last year.

I always find taking a book, or SAturaday Newspaper en route passes the time, especially trying the giant-sized Suduko in the SAturday edition of the Indy – takes hours to do!

Guthroth16 Mar 2007 5:02 a.m. PST

Ashbless, if it inolves London PT, normally no.

Then , there's west London, and Way Out West London. As an excercise, I did the sums this morning, and the Excel venue is close to 2.5 hours by mainline train and undergound – each way. That assumes the trains run on time, and I don't have a 29 min wait for the mainline train home (they only run twice an hour).

Pete, seeing as you think I'm a smart-arse anyway, why don't you buy a car?
As you live THAT far out, are you sure you actually live in London? Sounds more like Surrey, Middlessex or Hertfordshire.

cheers chris

I have to say that I have been resisting posting to this for a long while. Reading it – sure – but thought it best to say nowt. My initial reaction to the posting was, as you might expect, very "ho hum: that's web forums for ya…" but – I have to say – that I was fairly cheered by the responses in general after that.

I hope it's going to be a good show – we're certainly doing our best as a Club – to ensure we put into preactice the lessons learned from last year (layout of the room being an obvious one). I want to emphasise how much as a Club we value feedback on the show – certainly well thought through, intelligent feedback anyway! The number of comments that centre around the personal body hygene issues of wargamers and or the number of naked women we have at the show are (obviously) very carefully filed…

Seriously, though, we do want feedback and – especially – on the day via the feedback questionnaire (where you might even win five hundred quid in 'Salute Cash' voucers).

But – like I said above – the positive approach from the vast majority of contributors in this thread does warm ones heart as (what for the Warlords is) the 'big day' approaches.

In other news, we have just taken delivery of the licenced Lord of the Rings collectors sets to go in the first 4000 carrier bags (to scotch any rumours to the contrary that are rife at the moment!) so the first gamers at the show can look forward to those.

PS We have some last minute changes in traders to put on the floor plan so the one that's just come out in Miniature Wargames will only by 98% accurate. I'll be constructing a new PDF for the show website soon.

Ordered my tickets for Salute, wife preferred it when it was in Kensington, and yes, it is out on a limb, but sites that size are limited. Takes me a couple of hours and worth it as far as I'm concerned.

Garrison Miniatures27 Mar 2007 11:56 p.m. PST

Oh yes – I should be wearing a T-shirt with 'Garrison Miniatures' written on it. I'll be the aged one with Garrison Miniatures on it, the one playing games and rolling 1's is my son Steven and the female member of the party is my wife Sandra.

Guthroth28 Mar 2007 1:01 a.m. PST

christot.

I have a car, and I drive to work, as there is no suitable public transport.

I love driving, and FTR, I drove to the Excel centre this Sunday just gone. I would happily do so again, it's only 30 miles, and 9am on a Sunday morning is a fantastic time to drive through London, but their parking charges are clearly a joke intended to stop people bringing their cars.

IIRC it was £9.00 GBP for 2-3 hours – ouch !
