I am looking for alternate manufacturers of this scale. The models can be assembled/painted or kits, but not looking to spend more than say $5-7 for each model. Thanks for the help!

Don's are 1/144th. Ours (Minifigs) are 1/160th, N scale.

I know of some pre-painted diecasts.

Maisto B-25J Mitchell and P-61 Black Widow are about 1/155 scale. Maistos are a couple bux each at Walmart. The paint job on the P-61 is pretty good, on the Mitchell not so much.

Corgi Showcase Ju-87B Stuka and P-38 Lightning are about 1/144. They're five or six bux each for new production. Corgis are very well painted. They sometimes can be found at Walmart, or can be ordered from specialist e-tailers.

Dyna-flite planes are quite crude, recogizable by their little silver toy wheels. They've been sold under different labels in the US. When they're available they're cheap, a buck or two a plane; they're often sold in big boxed sets. It takes a lot of work to convert and repaint these toys so they're presentable along with proper models, and you have to make your own display stands. Dyna-flite makes a Ki.45 Nick fighter, a B5N Kate, a Judy dive bomber, and a Ju-87G Stuka with AT guns slug under the wings that are all close to 1/144. But there are better models available for a Stuka.

That's all I can think of currently in production in your price range.

Reviresco do a number of early types. In plastic Academy and Minicraft are good bets; decent range at good prices. Also Revell as DM says, and Eduard do some lovely German kit. Final honourable mention goes to Sweet; pushing out of your price bracket, but very nice models.

The pre-paints and die-cast 1/144 don't seem to crop up this side of the pond, so I'll leave them for someone better informed.

21st Century sold at Walmart would fit the bill, since they are pre-painted, and pre-assembled, yet very reasonably priced.

The P-51D, Me-262A, F6F Hellcat, and Ki-84 Frank are currently available.

We have them for sale with 3-D flight stands too, that permit any attitude of flight to be represented, including inverted flight too, on eBay:

auction

You can choose any of the aircraft to go with the 3" flight stand(s), from those pictured.

You might get a deal on a combined set, since there aren't a lot of bidding on these right now, but I expect that to change as the auction goes on.

The flight stands would work very well with the Duel of Eagles rules that we sell, since they they were designed specifically for that purpose, as well as their post-WWII set, Clash of Sabres.

You can purchase the aircraft separately too, for $7.00 USD each, if desired. We haven't been able to get them at wholesale prices yet, so provide them as a service to others who may be interested in them. They are especially good for people like me that don't have the time to assemble and paint planes much anymore, but want to do some aerial wargaming.

We also sell a 4" based flight stand that permits you to use the diecast metal Battlestar Galactica spacefighters with them too:

auction

No spacefighter is included with the above auction, just the flight stand.

The Bandai and Takara prepainted and preassembled aircraft can sometimes be bought for less, but usually end up at around $10.00 USD or so (including shipping), unless you are willing to buy larger lots to save on shipping through eBay.

We have the Bandai Wing Club Spitfire, two versions of the Me-109E, and the P-40N for sale for $10.00 USD each. Some of these are listed on eBay for as much as $25.00, since they have been out of production now for some time. They are all pre-painted, and you just need to snap them together. Adding a bit of glue might ensure they stay together a bit longer, when gaming with them.

You can also buy a number of 1/144th scale kit aircraft, but quality can sometimes be an issue, and they run about $8.00 USD or so each for the fighters anymore, at the local hobby shop.

We have several sets of kits for sale, but they run $10.00 USD per aircraft, and are sold in sets of two matching planes. The quality of these is superb however, and they come with really nice decals, and detailed instructions to show you how to paint them to match the real aircraft. We have the P-51D, Hurricane, and F4F Wildcat available.

We specialize in aerial wargaming products, and also sell rules, dice, decals, etc. for your one-stop shopping needs, to save you money on multiple purchases, requiring shipping to be paid for a number of orders.

Send us an e-mail message to the address below, for a copy of our seven-page product flyer.

I hope that helps some.

Have to agree on the 21st Cent Toys/New Millennium/Classic Armor 'diecast' stuff at WalMarts – cheap & nicely painted.

Top Gun Ace06 Mar 2007 9:28 p.m. PST

Yes, the F6F paintjobs are superb, and the panel lines are nicely done.

Hi,
I make a 1/144 Walrus Mk2 in resin as well as a Kingfisher OS2U floatplane and a 1/196 Arado 196a floatplane (also have a 1/144 one as well).
They are NOT up to commercial standards and were made for detail on Biggun combat warships (ie getting shot at by 1/4" ball bearings!).

Flames of War have some airplanes. Not sure of the cost, though…

The FOW ones are rather nice and very gamer-friendly, but they're bloody expensive, unfortunately….

Top Gun Ace07 Mar 2007 12:19 p.m. PST

Yes, $42.00 USD for three unpainted planes.

Yankyaeger09 Mar 2007 10:02 a.m. PST

There is a plethera of manufacturers… just depends on what you are looking for. Pacific, European, Russian theatre…etc…

Reviersco, FEResin, truenorthminiatures, hasagawa, trumpeter, minicraft, academy, Dragon, Revell, Arii, Crown, Bandai wing, Futura, Takara …. (just to name a few manufactuers) ….. all make 1/144 aircraft. There are even a few Resin manufacturers state-side (USA), that are fairly decent. But for the main crux… it just depends on what Theatre you are looking for. I currently have over 450 planes, for just about every theatre there is, and a plane from every manufacturer that I listed above. Sad part is that some of those lines are not produced any more… and they can only be found either by luck or Ebay.

But if you want to build planes…. there is a discount online supplier that sells some 1/144 fighter as cheap as 3.00 a pop,
Such as the: Hurricane, P-51 (listed as an F-51), FW190, P-39 King Cobra, Aichi Val Dive Bomber, Zero, etc … and they charge a flat $7.95 USD per shipping order. Here is their link:

gohobbies.com

you can shoot me an email, and I can puruse my collection of unused aircraft, and I can send you a list…with prices… however, for the prepainted stuff, like ROB, they are generally around $8-$14, pending on the plane. But the kit stuff (unbuilt/unpainted)… I typically sell em at what I paid for em. Just depends on what you are looking for. Good luck!
