Read two of his three SF military books -- Small Colonial War and Fire in a Faraway Place. Just ordered the third which was published '95/96 or so. Anybody know why the guy hasn't written anything since then? |

Cain's Land is pretty good. I have not seen anything, but I rarely by SF anymore |

The web seems to be oddly silent on the matter. He wrote 5 books (the three mentioned above and two "space vampire comedies") and disappeared. I suspect he is just one of many who failed to attain the star power "needed" by publishers in the 90's. That was the period that saw the rise of the mega-epic, and "short" (ie., normal length) novels stopped being sexy enough to keep the authors in contracts. If this phenomenon is unknown to you, go looking for some fairly well-known rants by Spider Robinson and Michael Stackpole, and note how many of the "old standards" suddenly migrated to doing Star Trek and Star Wars novels and little else. |

Frezza's stuff was good, but I think 'Small Colonial War' was the best. That series seemed to go somewhat downhill through the other books. They're all enjoyable, though. His two SF-comedies were good; the first better than the second, again. |

Its unfortunate that nothing new has come from him. "A Small Colonial War" probably ranks among my top 10 (maybe even top 5) of all the military science fiction I have read
which is quite a bit. Admittedly his next two books in the series fell off but they were still enjoyable. |

Yeah, the vampire books were funny but not on a par with the "Small Colonial War" trilogy. Every now and then I find myself toying with the idea working up a scenario that puts Cadillacs on the roads, Dragonflies in the air, Gurkhas at the spaceport, and a Boer commando in the woods but I've never found a set of rules that feels right to me. Jeez, now I'm all inspired to change my TMP name to "Der Henke". LT |

brass1 -- Stargrunt 2? Defiance Vital Ground? |

I haved toyed with running "A Small Colonial War" for a number of years. I was thinking Stargrunt II but my concern was finding the right minis both in scale and type. 25/28mm is too big and 1/285th takes away the squad level aspect. More recently I have thought 15mm is the right size and with the combination of DLD wheeled vehicles I already have and some of the great vehicles Old Crow is producing in 15mm I think that it can probably be done. Using GZG 15mm figs ought to offer the variety needed for troops
heck they even have civilians now. |

And colonial militia might work well for Boer commandos, etc. |

If you were doing 15mm -- Peter Pig stuff (modern ranges) could work well for colonials also. Some of their AK=47 Republic range would be perfect. |

Any word on Mr. Frezza since 2007? |
