I voted for Chess since it's on the list, because it technically meets the criteria of a wargame. But it's not really similar to any of the other games, and if that's there, then we should at least add Go.

If chess were a wargame, it certainly has not stood the test of time.

You never see a chess tournament at a wargames convention.

I would however suggest that adding a chess clock to a slow game might move things along.

Could use an Other option….

What, no OGRE?

miniMo, OTOH, can you name a wargame that was the centrepiece of a popular Netflix series?

Covert Walrus, nope. They did one on chess though…

IIRC, there were chess tournaments at the first few Origins conventions.

More seriously, why was Flatcher Pratt's Naval Wargame, not nominated?

I see some RPGs in there too, should be a separate category IMO.

Yeah, RPGs are a bit different.

Not the way we used to play RPGs!

When they make a mini series about a wargaming convention starring Anya Taylor-Joy, let me know. That's why I voted for Chess.

20thMaine, you must wait your alphabetic turn before griping.

Yeah, they cast the net pretty widely on this one. I'd have said (1) must require miniatures for play, and (2) must be 20+ years old and still in print. Probably wouldn't have needed a second round. Certainly wouldn't have needed a third.

But eventually, PDFs and POD will make "in print" a much fuzzier concept, if they haven't already. Assuming we don't really mean "we geezers still play a game every year or two" when we say "stood the test of time" does anyone have a more modern and objective way of checking an old game for signs of life?
