"The War of the Austrian Succession did not put an end to the rivalries between England and France. Very quickly the perfidious Albion restarted hostilities with its continental neighbor, without even a declaration of war. Wanting to preserve peace, Louis XV initially remained passive in the face of attacks from Royal Navy vessels. At the beginning of 1756, we had to face the facts and prepare for war. In retaliation for English acts of piracy, a surprise attack against the island of Minorca was then mounted in great secrecy. On April 10, Count de La Galissonière set sail from Toulon with a fleet of 12 ships, 5 frigates and 176 transport vessels with no less than 14,000 men on board…"
