Many settlers from the south migrated to Texas prior to the Revolution. The participated in several policing actions from authorized by the Mexican government shortly after their own Revolution. Volunteers from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee Mississippi and Louisiana all swarmed into Texas. In the Revolution, volunteers from Alabama was captured by the Mexicans while still on their ship. All were executed by the Mexicans. So many Southerners held grudges against the Mexicans. So many volunteered for the Mexican War. The Mississippi Volunteer regiment in a charge is a popular Army authorized painting. Beautiful uniforms of red shirt, white pants and wide brim straw hats. |
