Cheap battle mats are back in UK branches of Lidl. £7.99 GBP for two metres by one metre, buy two if you want to cover a bigger area. Also featured – 24 tubes of oil paints for £4.99 GBP, also in Lidl. Tonight my branch had jars of acrylic inks as well. YouTube link Barry |

I got some of those nearly 20 years ago and I'm still using them. I eventually cut them up to use as fields on top of "proper" battle mats. Definitely worth getting. DBDD |

4 foot wide would be better for me … |

@DBDD: Thank you. That use had occurred to me as well. The new one will be cut in half to create a background for filming. @Dagwood: buy two and cut them up, then glue them to a backing board? Barry |

I could do that and have bits left over to make fields ! |

These mats are well worth it. Had mine a few years and they take paint and keep really well. Probably get another one if they're back in stock. |

@Dagwood and drbeard: Thank you. I have been back in my Lidl a couple of times since. Nearly everyone had one of these mats in their shopping trollies. Being chatty I mentioned my video and discovered what they are using them for. 1) one lady bought one to place on her mother's grave to keep down the weeds. It is just the right size. 2) one couple were buying one for their garden but then said it would make a good base for their grandson's model railway layout, which it would. 3) another couple said it would be going under their dog's bed and feeding bowl so easier to shake off outside if the food got thrown about. So there you go! One product and many uses. Barry |

My wife bought me a roll of this a couple of years ago. It cuts easily with scissors and lasts really well. I use it for the bases of forest areas or in 2mm games as the forest itself. Well worth the price. |
