For all the coverage of war in Ukraine, it is rare to see it from the point of view of soldiers on the front. But by asking Ukrainians to wear cameras on their helmets as they face down relentless Russian attacks, Jamie Roberts's BBC Two documentary has captured the bloody reality of a conflict increasingly forgotten in the west…

Just like Go Pro cameras on people doing many activities as well cops have them too. And as did Hamas on 7 OCT.

Like during the Vietnam War, the footage many times was aired on the news channels with 24hrs. Which at that time it was a real jump in reporting and tech.

The Go Pro is the new tech, that brings the war even more close up. And in many cases, it won't be pretty.

I watched this documentary and was in awe of the dedication of the young Ukrainians fighting in that wilderness, they just refuse to give in to Russia and who can blame them, it's about the survival of their country and it's identity.

At the same time I feel the Western nations are being cowardly in not actually helping on the ground, it's time to call Putin's nuclear bluff and get properly stuck in.

So that means you are all for volunteering to go over there and fight right? Be the first man in the first squad of the first platoon of the first company of "Western Volunteers"?

Murph, that's a false argument.

If there's a housefire in the next town with only a volunteer fire department, am I morally obliged to go there and help?
Am I trained to do so? Does my own family need me first?
And if something goes wrong, who suffers more?

I'm sure your genuinely in support of all manner of important and valid causes outside your community. Do you go to join each one?

Regardless … if Ukraine was properly supported by the US and NATO with what they needed to push the Russian aggressors off their territory much earlier. But the US leadership slow walked some of the weapons systems they needed e.g. More M1 MBTs, F-16s, etc.

There really is no reason for the US/NATO to have boots on the ground. The Ukraine is doing pretty damn good killing thousands of Russians on their own. Just give them all they need to beat the Russian and get it over with. I guess the US leadership never had read/studied anything about GEN U.S. Grant, GEN Patton, etc.

Again, the US leaders are risk adverse and fears escalations. While thousand more died on both sides.

I think the first "western volunteers" made it to Ukraine already around two years ago. Not sure how many are currently present in the Ukrainian military.

They also have numerous "eastern volunteer" units in their strength, including a brigade or so of Belarussian expats.

Yes, there have been volunteers from both the West & East that were there to support the Ukrainians killing Russians, etc. From very early in the war. And I'm sure many are still there, with more possibly coming.

I'm far too large, too old and crippled to do any of that sort of thing now … old fart
