Our Operation Martlet campaign for Chain of Command continues. After seizing the initiative after their victory in the last game the Germans mount a local counterattack and so we return to St Nicholas Farm. The Germans will succeed in delaying the British for at least one campaign turn which makes their chance of an outright campaign victory less likely (but not impossible). Ouch indeed! This time, Dave managed to wrong-foot you, with an infantry heavy force when you were expecting AFVs, and a very aggressive posture while a simple delaying attack looked more likely. A textbook illustration of the importance of gaining initiative. Anyways, as usual, a pleasure to read, and beautiful minis & terrain to admire. Thanks for sharing! |

Yes indeed, Dave played a very smart game and completely caught me out. Fog of war played its part (as it should) and I can't have any complaints. It didn't feel ‘good' but it did feel ‘right'. Unfortunately! |

It looks like a combination of Dave out guessing you plus you were so sure about what approach he'd use that you over optimized your choice of supports. A more balanced choice migh well have been able to deal with an armor attack with one panther or a couple PzIV's and still left you with better support against an infantry assault. A great report as always. |

It looks like a combination of Dave out guessing you plus you were so sure about what approach he'd use that you over optimized your choice of supports. That's exactly it. I was predicting Dave's behaviour based on past experience. Shows the pitfalls of over confidence and a bit of complacency. I made a few hasty assumptions and paid the price. |
