A study of stellar output from dozens of stars show energy output discrepancies that could be explained by massive power-collection arrays called Dyson Swarms (sibling to the Dyson Sphere idea).

And for those who sneer at the Daily Mail:

There are possibly other explanations, even some not considered, the researchers admit. This study is not definitive. But it gives us things we should be looking at, and questions we should seek to answer.

Dyson already has a vacuum, so a spere is not hard to imagine.

If, and I do mean IF, this happens to be what is speculated…do we really want to continue waving our limbs about and keep screaming "Over Here!!!! Look Over Here!!!!"
Just sayin'.;)

I think the systems mentioned may have HAD fantastical power systems.
It takes light a long time to get here…!!!

Dyson's concept isn't fictional, it's speculation on technically possible things. Others have borrowed the ideas to create fiction, but that's a different thing.
Is it a viable concept? To some extent, yes— the swarms more so than the spheres (I really can't imagine any civilization capable of creating a Dyson Sphere actually needing to do so).
It's also not an unlikely idea for a civilization technologically advanced enough to attempt. Heck, we had a guy think of it, and we're nowhere near being able to pull it off… though in a way, we're doing something similar with Earth— our satellite systems approach "swarm" levels at a planetary level. We actually could do the same with the Sun, at least on a basic level. The expense would be enormous and the benefit minimal at this stage.
So if we could do it, any other intelligent life form not too far past our own level could certainly think of it and do it.

These constructions will be discovered to be elaborate tourist attractions (built by alien civilizations to generate revenue), kind of like the roadside ones in America in the mid-20th century. See? The 'advertising' is already working, lots of people already want to visit them to find out what they are… ;-)

Could also just be gas clouds or gravitation distortion.

Chances are, they are not Dyson anything. If there were 60 stars in our vantage point with tech that level – think beyond Star Trek even – those same aliens would have been here by now.

We're likely alone with the nearest aliens you could speak to in the next nearest galaxy. Not trying to be a wet towel. Just even with the sheer numbers of stars, the sheer number of things that must go RIGHT just to get intelligence out of amoebas is as mind-boggling as the number of stars out there.
