"Zombies 28mm - help!!" Topic

I am fascinated by the new zombie game County Road Z but I usually only play historicals so I am completely blank on the zombie theme. I need some advice on what 28mm zombies to buy. How many do you need and where do you get most bang for the buck? Grateful for any comments!

Depends on the game. With zombies, more is usually better.

I'd suggest Google 28mm zombies and see what you get, there are several companies that make them. The various Zombiecide games have a bunch of them, as well as a few survivors.

Your first choice is metal or plastic. I went metal, but there are some great plastic boxes sets out there. I do and 10x4 foot table and have 202 zombies. That said, around 20 to 40 will works for most games. Remember you can recycle the dead.

For building, O scale railroad lots are available on eBay with some good deals.

Die cast cars and trucks from the supermarket work fine.

My retirement project was a zombie attack on the Springer trailer park. Figures, buildings, rules. Great fun.

I don't know how those rules work, but consider multi basing zombies. Moving around a ton of horde models takes time.

I they that they are all good. That said, I generally buy figures that require as little work as possible (as in one-piece castings). I have multiple manufacturers in my collection.

The bulk of my zombies are the Wargames Factory/Warlord kits (male & female). I also have some plastic ones from Studio Miniatures (not sure where those went when Studio closed), and metal ones from Hasslefree and Recreational Conflict. The more variety, the better. But don't go overboard all at once, complete small batches at a time, or you'll feel overwhelmed (by zombies)… ;-)

Thanks all for the added response! Seems there are lots to go through. I saw that Old Glory are selling Blue Moon´s zombie packs in metal. Any experience with these in the zombie community?

They all of a very high quality. Some boxes are better than others.

The ones I didn't buy are the ones with weapons and the WWII leaders pack.
That's because I prefer unarmed zombies and don't play weird war II.

Not sure if they're still available, but the MANTIC Zombies were great because they are just wearing rags or the remenants of clothing – so can be used for just about any era or genre, rather than having your zombies tied to one historical period.

I have some that I used to make "corpse counters" for Malifaux. They're nice, and as you say their nondescript clothes allow them to fit in almost any setting.

They're on the larger end of 28mm.

For 28mm zombies, definitely check out Reaper Miniatures or Mantic Games for some awesome options. As for how many to get, starting with around 10 to 15 should give you a good feel for the game, but feel free to adjust based on your preferences.
