" So I have been tinkering with What a Fighter (WAF) for a month now and appear to have the basic components worked out. My bias for these rules are that wingmen are important in a dogfight and speed is just as important as maneuverability…"

Really interesting read and ideas on plane to plane combat.

Would be interested in dabbling in these rules, just to see 'how they fly' 😊

Battler,
Rules are 90% first finished. Air to ground still needs some work. Will be shopping for a publisher soon. The new title is "Boom and Zoom". I went with squares for movement at the suggestion of one of the play testers.
The rules reward teamwork and knowing the strengths of your aircraft as well as the weaknesses of the enemy. A zero will beat a wildcat but two wildcats have a good chance to beat two zeros.

Joe

Ps I think most people already know this but I make no money on my games. 100% goes to food banks.

Can the two Wildcats perform a "Thatch Weave"?

Yes; in an abstract fashion. That is how they can defeat the zeros. Keep their tails clear and wait for a decent shot. With their 6mgs against a zero it normally doesn't take too much.
Great question !

Joe,
How are the altitude levels handled? I kind of like how CY6 does it.

Wolf, sorry missed this. I don't know how CY6 does it but I have 6 bands that range from 5 to 10k ft in height. You can climb 1 band but loose energy (dice) or you can dive 1 or 2 bands and gain energy. A plane that is particularly good ,( or bad) in climbing or diving will perform differently than the average.
In our example above the wildcat will love to dive but not want to get into a climbing match with a zero.
That help?

Joe
