I find that this step is a lot easier if you use a black Pigma Micron pen or a Sharpie Micron pen.

Just my 2 cents. I like what you're doing with the panels!

"would be a lot easier", having never painted a spaceship miniature. Still, the technique works for 40K tanks and Warmachine warjacks…

I have also used a micron pen for the lining – and it is easier. I should have mentioned it. I just figured that I'd stick with paint tools in case someone out there can't get a micron pen.
