I've not used the cheap brands, but the 3M ones seem to work as advertised.

I realized a while back that scissors are inexpensive, and quite useful, and it didn't make sense to just keep a single 'hobby' pair of scissors around – just buy enough scissors to place one wherever I might need one! So I bought four pairs of scissors.

Scissors

However, the problem with my approach is that everyone else in the household quickly learns to raid my part of the house whenever they need scissors… and then my scissors disappear.

Hooks

My solution to the problem of getting my scissors stolen has been to buy some of those reusable hooks. You can buy the name-brand product at the big stores, or the inexpensive versions for half the price at the dollar stores, and they all seem to work about the same. The hooks supposedly stick to the wall until you decide to unstick them.

Scissors on hook

The advantage of having the scissors in plain view on a hook on the wall is that I can clearly see when something is missing, and then I can negotiate to get them back.

One issue that I ran into is that the instructions tell you to clean the wall surface with rubbing alcohol first. I discovered, to my dismay, that rubbing alcohol and historic wallpaper don't always play nice with each other! So now I skip the rubbing alcohol if in doubt.

I am now considering what else could I store on a hook? I have so many tools in drawers, where they can poke me or cut me or hide behind something else, so surely I can find a useful purpose for my leftover hooks?
